Need info on a 2016 F-250, 6.2 L

I'm considering going from a 2007 V-10 motor home to a 5th wheel trailer setup.

The truck I have located is a 2016 Ford F-250 crew cab, 2wd, 6.2 Liter V-8. max towing, 12,500 lbs.

The trailer I'm considering is a Keystone Cougar 287 RKS, 33 footer. Dry weight is: 8,715 lbs. GVWR is 11,920 lbs. Payload, 3,205 lbs. Which is way more than I'd ever carry on board.

The questions are, 1st, will this 6.2 L be enough to handle this trailer? 2nd question is: Does anyone know what kind of fuel mileage this truck gets unloaded, and loaded?

Any info would be nice. Thanks.

my 2012, F 250 6.2L, 2 wheel drive, super-cab, long bed... with 3.73 gears.

15 mpg empty... 9 to 10 towing.

I have 1,500 in truck bed and a 30 foot trailer that is over 10,000 loaded..

for a total weight over 17,000 pounds... and 8.5 in the hills of West Virginia and Virginia and my truck has 145,000 miles..

and the 6.2 L loves to rev.. so let it spin.
but if you do not like spin.. get a diesel.

Partly it's going to depend on where you tow. If you're planning on taking it up into some of the higher elevation areas of Nevada or California you'll get into some pretty serious elevation and that'll hurt a non-turbo gasser's performance. It would certainly be adequate but you're going to need to be comfortable with poor fuel economy, the right lane and lots of RPMs.

Now if you're going to mostly tow it locally and stick to points south and west and stay out of the Sierra's it would work better in that environment.

I towed 395 and 93 this year with my diesel and some of that country would stress a gasser pretty hard with that size trailer.

That truck would be a great fit for the FW you are considering! The 6-speed transmission works well, towing and empty. I get 8-10 towing at around 62-65 mph in 5th gear.

Empty highway will be 15-16 mph depending on speed. I rarely drive over 70 mph empty.

I have a 2014 F250, 6.2, 2wd towing an 8200 lb, 35 foot TT. All loaded I estimate it to be at least 10,000 lbs. Tows like a champ and I am often in 6th gear on the flats. Have pulled some significant hills and usually hold it at 4000 rpm in 3rd with no problem. The engine braking feature in tow haul works flawlessly. Previously I had an F350 with the V10 and I will say the 6.2 is much more refined especially with the 6 speed tranny. I do not measure my mileage as I feel you get what you get, but the 6.2 gets significantly better mileage than the V10.

And I know the more experienced folks will chime in, I've never towed a 5th wheel myself, but for planning I always say plan for the most.

If your TT is GVWR 11,900, plan and presume that you'll be at that weight at some point, and make sure you can do it.
By my math, if you add a spouse, your hound dog and a cooler, your truck will be nearly maxed out. (based on the gas engine)

If you look you'll see lots of info on fuel economy. I think I'm pretty normal with my 2012 6.2, Ext Cab, 8' bed, 4x4 and 32' 6,800lb bumper pull.

Hwy empty: up to 17 (on a good day w/ a tail wind!)
empty city/hwy mixed: 11-13 depending upon the mix
towing: 7-9 (most common is 7.9 to 8.2. Lowest ever 7.0, highest 8.9)

For my needs the 6.2 is outstanding. The transmission Ford hooked it to really makes everything smooth and strong.

In the Rockies though, my trailer pulls the truck down to 2nd on many hills. I've still got good torque, so I'm not floored, but I typically can't hold 3d gear.

I would be concerned about that much weight (your 11.9K 5'er) behind the gas motor. I like mine a lot, it's a good match up, but you're talking an extra 5,000lbs.
