No fan with AC unit....

Yes it is the wrong time of the year for AC even in Texas. But I turned on the fan only and nothing... Soooo turned on the AC..the AC starts but no fan, runs for a minute or two and shuts down..?? I have throwed the circuit breaker on and off and still get nothing. This is on a 2014 Cedar Creek with the dual zone thermostat. Anyone ever had this happen or know what the problem may be....Thanks.....

Well, although this would work make sure you helper spinning the fan and you have good communication going on and he has is hands out of the way when you witch the fan on. If it suddenly decides to start when he has his fingers in there it's going to ; at the very least ; HURT.

For that reason I don't recommend this one.

If the fan motor is free and you can hear it humming or trying to start. Have someone at the thermostat, give the motor a good spin and while the fan is spinning have your helper slide the t'stat fan switch from auto to on. If the motor starts and runs your problem is the fan capacitor.

Same advice from me. I bought an RV that had sat for at least 2 years, and it had the same problem. Once I got the fan loosened up and oiled, it worked fine ever after.
Currently RV-less but not done yet.

Pull your thermostat and check for loose wire connections. I had a similar issue and it was a simple loose wire. No problems since.

Thanks....one thing I have found searching is it is a Dometic AC unit. I see back in 2014 to 2015 they sent out a bunch of bad AC's. We have only had this RV since Aug. and back when it was hot out it seemed like it just didn't cool this unit like it should, especially since it is a HP model???? That is the M O of those units they don't cool like they should then the fan shuts down or locks up.....Hmmmmmmm

Hi,

Don't throw off that rooftop shroud so quickly, if there is a bee hive inside the A/C unit keeping the fan from turning, you might get stung. ..

You might also have a bad capacitor. Google bad capacitor, and you might get a picture of a capacitor that has 'popped' and the center is no longer the way a new one looks. Or it might be shorted internally, but still look OK. A new capacitor will cost around $15, so might as well replace it.

DO NOT run the compressor without the fan running. You are probably lucky that the compressor shut off on it's internal 12 amp overload once it had reached extreme high pressure, before any damage started. The fan MUST run to get rid of the heat from the freon outdoor coil.

Is the fan set to low or high? If the compressor is starting and the fan isn't shut it off and go up on roof. Remove the shroud and move the fan by hand. If it frees up put a little light weight oil (3 in 1) on it and try it again. Ours did the same thing this spring and moving it by hand took care of the problem.
