pets anyone ?

Just thought I would ask. We are contemplating getting another dog as our last one passed over a year ago. We travel as much as we can and I know all love their pets. Just selfish a bit as to have to be back to the RV from a tour or site seeing to let the pooch out, got to stop here and there for walking, limited to do this and that because of pets. So now the big question????? What other animals do you all travel with? Stuffed animals are at the top of my list as they do not eat, poop, shed, whine or bark. Thanks for the info. We had never had a cat and raised our cat to think he was a dog. He walked on a leash, sat outside at the campground with us, tied to his own chair. He went to the door and whined when he wanted to go for a walk.
He would only go in his litter box and it was a run home at top speed if he decided he had to go while we were walking him around the campground.

travel now with little papillion dog but when he dies down the line, or goes off to college with kiddo---no more pets when travelling. we enjoy him now on trips, but when we go full time we want total freedom and no dealings with an animal to maintain. maybe later in retirement if we slow down more? not sure but the options are always open.

We take care of the kids dogs and grandkids dogs when asked. Glad to do it for them, but even more glad when they pick them up. Ties us down too much.

My two have grown up RVing; they are 9 & 10. They know when I'm getting it ready for a trip and insist on helping (meaning sitting on the dash while I do all the work). I recently had to take a trip without them and it was boring. I prefer having them along. I'm lucky in that they are a small non-yappy breed that likes to sleep all day, sleep all night, with a couple of leash walks to keep them happy. I'll probably get another dog when they're gone.

well thanks to all the comments. We are going to maintain our pet freedom at this point. still have lots of travels to do and about 5 or so days per month. Still won't worry about pets. When it is time, maybe a little bird or something that won't take our time away from us and our interest. Good Luck & Be Safe ! ! !

We got the RV so we could travel with the dogs. For a few years we had 2 collies (Lassie collies, not border collies) with us in a 21 ft MH. We moved up to a 24 foot MH last year, but had to put down one of the dogs. Now that 24 feet seems awfully big.

We love having our big, furry guy with us. Mostly we take him wherever we go. When we can't we turn on the AC and leave him plenty of water and he's fine.

Knowing that we want to be fulltimers(when our house sells), we were determined not to rescue any more dogs, which we love. We often take day trips wherever we park and know that a dog can't be left in the RV all day.
So, when my mother passed away, we were left with her stubborn old cat. She has traveled with us and does fairly well. Still not crazy about litter tracked all over and cat hair everywhere, but she's family now.
We get our doggy fix by petting other camper's pets(with their permission). Plus we can still do all day trips as long as the food and water bowls are filled.

I have a chiweenie.. ( half chahuahua/half dachsund) she goes with me everywhere.. only weighs 3.6 lbs..can throw her in my puppy purse and no one knows she is there..she is an easy traveler..

Keep the dog - change the RV... One of the reasons we travel in a Class B is the pup can be with us - never left at CG, since the "house" goes where we go! ST

We left "Butch" in WV two years ago, he was 14 and in poor health and pain he had traveled fulltime with us for four years. I told DW we would not get another pup till after we went to Alaska. We are there now and talking about breeds and size, not big and not small. May turn out to be a rescue if we find one we like though I prefer a pup to train with no habits to break.

We have two budgies that come with us if we are not crossing the border, they get to fly around the house, but not the rv. The dogs come with us both countries.

We travel with 3 dogs. A big reason for having a trailer is because of dogs. We got our first trailer with just one dog. We used that trailer to travel from CA to MD while spending 3 months sight seeing across the country. We had an amazing trip and fell in love with RVing. Other than that trip, we've just used it for random local trips. Our new trailer was an upgrade due to the fact that we now have 3 dogs. We needed more floor space in the trailer. The nice thing is that while we still loving using the RV for camping, we also use it more now as a rolling hotel. With 3 dogs totaling 180lbs, there isn't a lot of hotels that would take us and this way we can enjoy the RV, have our dogs with us and still go do whatever it is we were planning on doing.

We leave them in the RV when we're off doing things. The new trailer is much quieter inside than our old one. We typically leave the AC on (we're in FL) and the radio to keep them distracted by inside noises. We've asked neighbors if they barked at all and they said they never heard them. I know many places say not to leave your pet unattended, but it's impossible to take your animals everywhere.

I'm sure we could do a lot more and stay out longer during the day if we didn't have dogs, but the adventures and fun we do get to have with them far outweighs the convenience of not having a dog....for us anyway. There are definitely times (like wanting to go to a multi-day music festival that doesn't allow pets) that we'd love for the dogs to have a spot to stay while we're having fun, but that's what I get for not wanting to kennel them and living 1000 miles from my family in MD.
