I know it gets really hot at lots of places. I've been in the Badlands of SD when it was around 100 if I remember correctly and I was up in Iowa just last September when it was around 100 for a few days.

BUT

The difference I see is that Florida starts getting hot and steamy somewhere in April and stays that way till sometime in October when it does start to break. Where I live, it will be mid 90s for a high and no lower then about 75 for a low EVERY DAY. And it will still be over 80 at midnight. It will usually cloud up and thunderstorm about 3:00-4:00 every day in the summer. It's all very constant. I don't even know why we have weather 'people', except to advise us about hurricanes. I usually have my AC running for good by Easter every year. Early in the season I do run it, even if the outside temps are marginal, just to keep the humidity out of the house.

It seemed like even in the hotter areas up north, it at least cooled off a little more at night and there were also breaks in the hot weather.

Yes, yes we do stay warmer longer. But we stay get down inro the 40's here in central FL, so bring some warm clothes. We make up for our milder winters by being darned near intolerable in the summer.

Remember that when we do get our cold spell, it is also wet. It chills you right thru your clothes. It can feels worse outside than a dry cold at 30 degrees lower. Being trapped inside is still a bore.

I'll tell you where it's also "darn near intolerable" in the summer. I just spent a large part of the summer in central Arkansas before coming to central Fl 2 months ago. I'd never ran the A/C as much anywhere as in central Ar. Temps and humidity were simply ghastly. The beautiful countryside somewhat made up for the temps, but not quite! LOL

I'll be playing golf tomorrow here in Tucson. From the course I look up at Mt Lemon (9,300'), 12 miles to the east, covered in snow but on the first tee at 12:22 it will be 80. I'll be packing my sunscreen and a cold brewski (or two).... "Fore!"

Last week we were the ONLY state with livable temperatures!

Nope you won't get me back into Wisconsin.....ever! :C

I understand - it was way down to 70 degrees yesterday in California and it was so crowded at the beach - there were at least a dozen people on the mile long stretch where we were. And no humidity ever!

Just a note: These weather maps tend to be misleading when temp reported on the map are from coastal cities and higher elevations. For instance, the map posted on page one of this thread shows San Diego high of 56 and LA of 48. That same day, 40 miles North of San Diego, inland where I live it was 74. Yesterday, It was 88 where I live. That is 88 without any bugs and without any humidity.

Ok, let's put this notion that the highest point in FL is a bridge. The highest point is 345' above sea level and is in northwest FL. The road bed of the Skyway Bridge in Tampa is only 175'. Of course if you were able to stand on the top of the towers of the bridge you would be higher since it is 430', but mere mortals are not allowed up there.
My point was not about elevatation; it was about changes in elevation. KS, NE, DE, and Washington DC have greater elevation changes than FL.

Only going to get up to 74 today in WPB from a low of 62:B Have not heard much from those in TX??? Guess those lows in the 40,s & 50,s are getting to them and it's not winter yet.

Sorry for the poor picture but only way I've found to keep it from changing.

For those of you who do not like Florida, God bless you, and thank you. I really think you should go to Texas, Arizona, or Southern California, or maybe even Mexico, anywhere but Florida. Me? I'll spend my winters in Florida. If we all went to Florida, it would be unbearable, and unaffordable. I found a little park in south central Florida that is very affordable, in the middle of orange groves with good inexpensive golf and excellent fishing all around us. I like spending my winters in shorts and sandals.

I've been staying in central Florida for the past two months. The weather was surely the best in the nation (possible exceptions: Calif. & So. AZ) for quite a while. It's cooled down again but still nice. Had two tornadoes in Fl last night and this morning, but not near here. I usually stay in Southern AZ for the winter but made an exception this year to visit family. To tell the truth, I still prefer the southwest....
