Is there a brand of portable gas grill that will work with the built in gas tank on an RV?
This tank has its own regulator which renders my grill worthless as it has its own dedicated regulator . Long story short Iโ€™m regulating my grill twice which just will not work. Any suggestions would be appreciated .

I can't believe how many people here are either suggesting a mickey-mouse solution or saying it can't be done. There are numerous Ts on the market to do just this; Extend-a-Stay, Camco, etc.

Low pressure quick-connects (found on many RVs) must be used with grilles that have a flame control but NO regulator. Some grilles (Weber for example) can be converted by removing the regulator but retaining the flame control.

Other grilles, that cannot be converted, require a high pressure feed, easily installed between the tank and the regulator. Again, those Ts are readily available.

I opted to use a splitter at the tank to hook our Coleman Triton stove to. Even though each hose connection has integral stop valves to prevent leaking when not hooked up, I still added a ball valve to the grill outlet so I can close the valve and let the grill burn the excess propane in the 12' hose (rather than just dumping raw propane).

It's a win-win for me since I can still run the grill off the 1 lb bottles if I choose and I do not lose any heat capability. We also have a Coleman Road Trip grill that I converted to low pressure to run off the back of our TT with the factory quick connect, but the heat output isn't where I'd like it.

I just ordered a connection kit from this place.

I've got a Weber Q100, and this kit screws onto where the regulator on the grill comes off. I got the Weber specifically because it could be converted to hook up to the low pressure outlet on the side of the RV. I've gotten tired of using the 1# bottles, and having them run out of fuel halfway through grilling a chop or steak.

Could not have said it any better as I too hate messing with the 1# bottles and running out of gas part way through grilling a rib eye.
Thank you very much for the link, that is EXACTLY the info I was looking for. You rock.

So you are getting good heat cooking with the grill hooked up that way? I'm asking because I thought the gas coming from the camper's regulator is lower pressure than a "standard" gas grill regulator.

.

We have the exact same setup. Plenty of heat with one exceptions....if we are also running 3 burners on the stove and the gas oven, the gas pressure will get too low and the grill will go out. But, that is very rare. Most times, no issue.

After reviewing all the responses and looking at my options I called my local gas company and we collectively came up with a workable solution.
Long story short we decided the simplest thing to do was tee off the line prior to the main regulator. It works great and cost me a grand total of $76.47. Needless to say as they say Iโ€™m a happy camper. Thanks all for your input.

That's what the old extend-a-flow kit accomplished. Had that on my old trailer. Came right off the tanks with a tee. Worked great

Does the extend-a-stay have some system to prevent the, ummm, unobservant user from hooking a low pressure hose and device to the high pressure side?

Standard fittings for RV low pressure appliances are quick disconnect, high pressure are 1"-20 threaded fittings - an entirely different animal.

I see a number of "Home brew" solutions and they scare me

I use an Extend-a-Stay.. High pressure gas to the grill

ANd yes there is a low pressure solution that I would deem safe but the Extend-a-stay is what I use.

Advantage Extend-a-stay is it works both ways. Not only does my RV's tank supply the grill.. but if I run dry. A portale tank will provide the Furnace to keep me warm and toasty.

After all this good info it appears Iโ€™m stuck with the Weber go anywhere grill or similar due to space limitations. There isnโ€™t space for even the smallest Q, oh well. Guess Iโ€™ll be using 1# bottles.

I used a small 5 lb tank for years to feed my Weber Q while camping and only gave it up when it date expired. I could have paid to have it recertified but I also have a 10 lb tank so I now use that instead. That said, that 5 pounder sure was easy to store, easy to carry, but would run my Q "forever", at most perhaps requiring only one refill during the camping season if we used it a lot so I'm thinking that for next season I may just cut to the chase and buy another. There are many U-Tube videos of folks converting their Weber Q.

I have noticed the grill is a bit on the slow side heating up but still cooks fine.

That is because the grate is cast iron and absorbs a LOT of heat. That is a good thing though, because it means it heats the food evenly.
