Pulling through big cities

Wondering what people do when they have to pull their rigs through the bigger cities. Also is there a book or app. That has preferred routes to destinations. Just thinking driving certain places with a 5r or a TT isn't a lot of fun

Study your route on a map first.
Learn the names of the streets you need to turn on.
Know the names of the streets just before that turn then you will be ready for that next turn.
Try that with 5 turns!

What?
Can't read a map?

I've not had problems with larger towns or cities, but I have had my share of problems in small country town across the mid-west? Why ... well, we've been driving for a while, we're hungry and want to swing through McDonalds. We pull in, attempt to go around the building and come out the other side.... only problem is, the road does not go around the other side! That means backing out all the way around the building back to the road, sometimes, backing into the road, to move on. This actually happened to us twice this summer. As soon as you get around that building, this great big .... "OH SH!!" with a deep low rumble somehow grumbles under my breath!

Don't get hung up on driving through a big city. Prepare your best before hand. Actually I find it challenging, if needed. Sometimes you just get into tough situations. So with experience, it helps you get through it. Actually, I have found that other drivers are quick to spot when you are "in a fix". And will do what they can to help you. They will get out of your way. They will stop traffic for you. They will get out there and help guide you through the tough spot. And so forth.

Oh....there are a few that will flip you off and blow their horn at you too. That is what alerts the others that you need help. So even the horn blowers actually help you without their knowledge.

One other thing I have learned is don't depend on a cop to help you. Every time I was in one of those spots where there was a cop around, they generally sat in their car and watched how you got out of it. I suppose if things got crazy they would help. All I'm saying is just don't depend on a cop to help. But other drivers are your best help. They are on your side. Because you might be holding them up. They need to get you going, so they can go.

So enjoy the ride. Meet the challenge.

The Atlanta, Ga. area being home for us, we've always found that when we routinely tow into and out of Atlanta, it helps to stay in between the white lines. As for the rest of towing in and around this big sorry mess, ya just get out there, hang on and go!!! We usually have at least 6 lanes to pick from within 20 miles of downtown ATL; how much easier can it get???:B

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

We travel via interstate routes to reach our destination campground. The campground website usually will have driving directions that will get you there safely. If no, we call the campground and ask what is the best route to take to get to the campground safely. All this is done prior to leaving on the journey's day. We always plot our destination before we leave home or wherever we have spent the night.

We try to look at the map and study it a little before heading out...and we always try to stay in the next to the farthest lane... sometimes the one completely to the side turns into exits lane...and avoid hitting big cities with lots of traffic at peak times...
