Ready brake, ready brute

Hello, we are new to rv lifestyle and have used our class c BT cruiser twice already. We are now ready to start trying to set it up for towing. We are going to have to change our class 2 hitch to a class 3 then will need a system. The prior owner gave us a system called a ready brute and a ready brake, company is based out of Kansas. When I asked the local shop that installs towing systems he had never heard of it and his remark was "interesting" when he looked it up. Anyone ever heard of it and is it safe? It would be great not to have to pay 1500.00 for a new system but want to make sure we are safe. We will be towing a Jeep Wrangler 4 down.

I started with a electronic braking system. Having several electrical failures (usually in the middle of a trip), I bought a Ready Brake. I would never consider an electronic type again.

The folks at NSA can fix you up with any needed parts, and the installation/user manual is online at their web site. The newer ReadyBrake units are slightly different than yours, but the basic setup is the same.

Hello, thanks for the replies. We think this system is from 2006. We have 2 separate parts that connect together. A ready brake and then a ready brute. Has 4 cables with it but does not have the piece that runs thru the middle eyelet that applies pressure when you brake? Rating on the ready brute is 8000#. We called the company and they offered to look at the system and check it out for free if we mail it to them. We are going to get it out next week and either send it off or find someone familiar with these systems to install it. We also need a stronger hitch and also a base plate. We will of course also need to get the missing parts. Does anyone have one of these that is this old, ie 2006?

About 40,000 miles towing two different toads with the same ReadyBrute/ReadyBrake tow bar, with zero problems. Highly recommended...

We have the Ready Brute Elite tow bar.....tow bar has the brake system built into it.

It's given us great service for as long as we've used it.

I highly recommend it.

We've used the ready brute brake to tow our 2007 Saturn for 6 years now with no problems. When the local guy went to install it, he had not heard of it either, but called their headquarters a couple of times for information and got great service from them.

I have the Ready Brute towbar. Could not be happier with it. There have only a few complaints.

I used one for four years, until we sold the MH and the Towed. I would not consider another system. The Ready Brake is simple, safe, reliable, easy to connect, does not interfere with normal operation of the Towed. The cost is considerably less than other systems I considered. I would recommend it.

IMO (and it IS only my opinion) the ReadyBrute/ReadyBrake system is the ONLY practical auxiliary braking system for towed motor vehicles.
It is simple, completely mechanical, relatively inexpensive, easy to install, does not require installation and removal like some of the electronic boxes, has never been accused (to the best of my limited knowledge) of burning up the towed vehicle brakes, has never (again, to the best of my knowledge) failed in the middle of a trip, and it simply does the job for which it was designed.
I would recommend that if the system you have does not have the breakaway feature, it would be a good idea to get it. Why have the braking without the breakaway, it doesn't make much sense, IMO.
Many people don't give any thought to the capacity of the safety chains or cables. Please do make sure that they have a working capacity that will tow your towed vehicle in the unlikely event the hitch should fail. The cables or chains should at least have the same capacity as the towbar.

Been using one for 6 years towing a Rav 4. Easy set up and no problems so far.
