On a well & have rotten egg smell on both cold & hot water. Just got back from 2 weeks at a bluegrass festival & no rotten egg smell. We built a barn on the kids place & ran a 150' line from there water softener. They had rotten egg smell on hot water but not on cold before they replaced magnesium rod with aluminum.

We have the smell on both cold & hot. We have a 2010 rig with a suburban hot water heater I changed the rod last Feb. Next time we go out will make sure I replace with Aluminum Anode Rod. But why am I getting rotten egg smell with cold water?

Oh yes have used Clorox & the smell will go away for a few weeks then come back.

It's not uncommon for well water to have bacteria which are perfectly harmless but which produce some sulfur-smelling gases. If they build up enough, the sulfur odor will be very noticeable. The solution for that is a chlorine (bleach) dose to the well. There are plenty of sites that give instructions for this. I have found that if we use our well water enough, the bacteria never build up to the point that we have any detectable odor in the house water. But, if you put the well water in your RV freshwater tank and don't use it immediately, the bacteria present in the water will reproduce and your RV water will smell like sulfur. The solution to that is, again, a bleach solution in the RV tank. To avoid that problem, I just don't use our well water to fill the RV tank if I can possibly avoid it.

My mother in law has the same issue we can't hardly drink her well water for the sulphlur if you let it stand in a glass for some time the odor goes away. I would be worried about the plumbing taking on this odor if you are there for any length of time.

I had a problem like that and used Clorox and it helped but didn't cure it. Found out it was coming from my water filter that had stagnant water in it for several weeks that stunk. I removed it, flushed the system again with bleach then clean water, then installed a new filter. Problem solved.

Keep in mind that if you have dissolved iron in your water (many wells around here do) bleach can cause it to come out of solution. So watch for rust colored water if using bleach.

Both sulfur and iron can cause a build up inside your lines and tanks.

Get rid of the water in your tank. Find another source for your water and refill the tank with a mixture of two cups of bleach and fill with good water. Pump that mixture thru your system, including the water heater and let sit for at least 24 hours. Drain and refill WItH KNOWN GOOD WAter and flush a couple times.

carbon block filters will get low level hydrogen sulfide. We stayed in north Fla where the water was terrible as well as La. In La it stopped up the filter in two days but we were doing clothes too. We used .9 micron ceramic filter. We used a 25 micron in Fla before the .9 micron.
The 25 microncarbon block filter got a lot but the ceramic got the rest. Had dickens of a time getting it clean though. the water in the coach was just bout perfet after filtering.

Your well water, like mine has noticable levels of hydrogen sulfide. Have the same problem too if I dont use the water enough in the trailer. Not much you can do bar from shock chlorination of your well.

Using well water......rotten egg smell in both hot & cold

How old is your water hose and do you bleach it when you do the rest of your plumbing system?

Water supply and supply hose are the only common things to your hot & cold water.
Is it time for your medication or mine?
