Rude forum members

Merrykalia

I belong to several different RV forums and I have never had a problem with rude posters on any other site. This site has about 20 members that are rude and just seem to troll around for something they can get some jabs on.

Over the past several months, I have noticed that if someone asks for OPINIONS on an item, there has to be at least one or two members that wait for several opinions to be posted and then begins to SLAM at least one poster. It's gotten so bad that I am reluctant to express my opinion on anything.

Therefore, it's time for me to depart from this site. I have found it very, very useful, but I refuse to be made feel to feel like I am stupid because of my opinion.

Thanks for all the help that you have given me over the past decade or so, but I'm not hanging around any longer.

Yes, I've seen your wit concerning tragedies:

Sneaker waves grab dogs. Owner's jump in to save their dogs, and often drown. Sometimes multiple family members drown. Usually the dog ends up back on shore, non the worse for the experience, but now ownerless.

westernrvparkowner wrote the following about a family dieing trying to save their dog:

Park employee warns dog owner of danger, dog owner takes offense and an argument ensues. Eventually, the dog's owner pulls a gun and shoots the employee in the arm and takes him hostage. Swat team engages in hostage negotiations. Negotiations fail Swat team employs tear gas and Flash Bang grenades. Five sites away an elderly widow is startled by the noise and knocks over her goldfish bowl. Her cat immediately eats the goldfish. The widow has a heart attack and drops dead. Five days later the police do a welfare check on the widow and the cat escapes. The cat, now feral, must survive eating the local songbirds. As the songbird population declines, the rats and snakes that normally feed on the songbirds and their eggs die of starvation. Without the snakes and rats to eat, the few remaining wild California Condors die. Enforcing leash laws causes species extinction.
And yes, this makes just as much sense as saying a swimming dog causes entire families to drown.

What was that all about?
The context of your post was it was posted in a thread about dogs being off leash against park rules. To imply that dogs being off leash leads to families being swept to their death by rogue waves is ridiculous. I just made up an equally ridiculous scenario. I often forget not everyone gets or appreciates sarcasm.

This is by far the busiest and most populated RV site on the net, for better or worse. If you figure that x people per thousand are rude, nasty, whatever, then that population goes up right along with the general membership. The upside is that there are a lot of knowledgeable folks here with good info to share. Yes, it gets old seeing the same old guys post the same old flames, but I have helped many here on the forum and many have helped me, so I stick around. Don't let a few bad apples make you toss the whole basket.

To the OP why quit? There is too much useful information available here to just turn it off do to a few that you may disagree with.
You are penalizing yourself by isolating yourself from the forum. Your adversaries will remain. Maybe take a break from it, or use the blocking feature if necessary.
Funny there are those I generally agree with. There are those I seldom agree with.
But at the end of it all I am usually enlightened and come away from it all with lots of useful information.
For better or worse getting opinions, ideas, viewpoints, questions and testimonials from a broad spectrum of knowledgeable RV'ers from various parts of the country is invaluable. Don't punish yourself for the questionable behavior or others by walking away.
Again take a break but don't permanently pull the plug. There are other RV forums but none of them quite compare to RV.net when it comes to size, volume of activity and the exchange of useful information.

I generally do not have trouble on these forums. It's just that people who think they know everything are very annoying to those of us who do.

Debating a topic in a reasonable respectful fashion is one thing. Intolerance for differing views to the point of bashing each other is quite another. There are plenty of forums setup elsewhere for those that wish to fight with nicks on a screen for no other purpose but to argue with someone.

Never considered blocking anyone. Uusually don't even look to see who the author is unless something said sparks the interest. Try to avoid the pissing matches. They serve no useful purpose. Disagree with me at your peril. I really don't care. My opinion cost you nothing. Take it or leave it. It really makes no difference to me. likewise your opinion. It does not cost me anything & I will take it or leave it.

This is a place with a wealth of useful imformation. It is also full of hot air. It is a fun place as long as people don't take themselves too seriously.

I've noticed that there are some people that have VERY strong feelings about one thing or another and take any opportunity to express their point of view. They tend to take things quite personal.

While I haven't blocked anyone, there are some people that I just simply read their response and laugh and move to the next one.

Like politics and religion, I usually don't weigh in on these types of discussions. However...

Seems to me it takes more effort to say something nice than to say something rude. A rude answer is generally the first thought that one has when confronted with an opinion that differs from one's own opinion. That's human nature, to respond spur-of-the-moment. It takes some effort (whether a nano-second or longer) to step back, look at the message to which one is responding, and come up with a response that is both thoughtful and thought out.

Good rule of thumb...respond to others as you'd like to be responded to. Sound familiar?

Not only do I come here for information I come here for entertainment. The rudeness and trolling only add to the entertainment for me. I have been tempted to block a few members from time to time but am afraid of what kind of craziness they may post that I might miss. Sort of like me watching Nascar for the wrecks.

I agree with you if the "banter", "discussion," or "debate" is done with no personal attacks. Responding to a post with: "You are........" is worthless and adds nothing. Blocking such a member is a good idea.

Respectful discussion helps every one, even if some do not agree.
