Rudest dealer ever

I usually don't post negatives about a business unless I feel it is extremely warranted. We have all delt with the ocassional jerk, and normally I just let it go. To me, this one is over the top. I went in last Saturday to Miller's RV in Baton Rouge. Yes, I saw the parts dept closed sign on the door. I also saw three guys standing in the store so I went through the unlocked door. I was looking for exterior light fixtures for my trailer and thought they might have something on the shelf. I was greeted by one man who seemed to be a RV salesman. He showed me where the lights were stocked. Then here comes the enforcer. He must have been management because the first guy went silent. He explained to me in a near screaming voice that the parts dept was closed, had been closed on Sat for over eight years, the cash register was closed and if I wanted to buy anything it would have to be exact cash. After telling him of my simple need, he informed me that I would have to find it elsewhere because they were closed, just like the sign said. He then ran out the door and sped off in his car. Moral of the rant, if you live in BR and want a motorhome or Airstream you might want to think about using a different dealer. If a simple inquiry is responded to in this manner, what is their customer service like?

Not losing sleep, but neither do I want Miller to take it personally nor do I want people to think I'm a whiner. It was just poorly handled; turning a non issue into a bad memory.

DannyBear1 you were right about the Airstreams being at the RV Shop. I went there on the same day less than 15 minutes before. The sign was up, the door was locked and the lights were out. Ok, a little weird for this type of business but oh well. Left there and went to Miller's. I am not questioning Doug's character. Quite the opposite. Anyone who has been in any business for as long as he has must have something going for him. What I do question is why the salesman was so nice and this other guy was so rude. No, I don't think I deserve some kind of special treatment just because I breathe. It was my first time stopping at his business and it was a very unpleasant experience. That's all this post was meant to convey. Baton Rouge is about 440,000 people. Can you recite the closing times and history of all businesses in town? If you can, that's pretty impressive. When I am closed, if someone inquires about my services, I don't chew them out for it

Who were the 'they' who rejected WalMart?

The town fathers, or councils, the town's residents protests, etc.

Which town was that?

This whole scenario just played out in Green Bay, WI over the past year. There is no, and will not be a, Walmart in downtown Green Bay.

And are YOU so bored you have to chime in to an off-topic, irrelevant post like mine? :B

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

When did we do the most business? 11:30 until around 1:30p.m. It was a very rare Saturday when we left at noon. I guess lots of folks wanted to sleep in.

I even had a fellow call asking us to stay open later because he "really needed" brake shoes for his work car. "How long until you can get here?" I asked. "Well I want to finish watching the football game first." I wasn't sorry we missed that sale!!!

Doesn't make sense and is bad business (to me).

Then when do the parts departments employees get their days off? :S

When they rotate hours:h

I owned a multi-chain retail business (12 stores)...we were open 7 days a week.... the guy is missing some good retail sales. As I mentioned, most likely, people work on their RV's on the weekend as they are working at their jobs during the week.

The owner of the RV store may be very happy with M-F sales and it's his business, he can do what he wants. If I owned a RV retail business, I would also have my service dept. open on Saturdays and have enough employees to rotate days off etc. That's where part time employees also are used to keep everything man'd properly. (just my opinion).

Running your own business for a time, will often change one's idea's as to how they should be run. And add to one's understanding as to why business do what they do.

I agree that being open on the weekends for a RV place is a good idea.
But on the other hand, more staff, higher overhead, more headaches.
For some owners it would just not be worth it. And I respect that

We stopped being open on weekends years ago. For the few people that piddled with their cars on weekends it just was not worth the expense of opening the doors. My customers know this and have no problem coming by during business hours.

I wasn't 'sent' or even asked to post my response. I did it out of fairness to a very good shop that I happen to know the owners personally.

I thought Doug Miller would have responded by now, but since he didn't, I will.
I have know the Millers for several years and they would not tolerate this type of behavior. After talking to Doug Miller this morning and forwarding him this post he talked to his people and determined this did not happen as described by you. Perhaps you forgot about them telling you they didn't carry replacement lights for your utility trailer, and, maybe you forgot that you went to the RV Shop on Choctaw
where this may have occured. The RV shop not Millers, sells Airstreams.
And yes, my 2014 Rockwood TT is at Millers right now having a slide motor replaced because I know it will be right when I get it back.
They have the best reputation in the area for a reason..........

This doesn't make them look so hot either, sending an internet poster to tell the OP this did not happen to him. I'm sure you meant well but if he wanted to respond he should chime in here with a quick note of his own.
