RV Dealer / Service Center

Where to start? Well I took my RV to the dealer for some repairs. As a note this is the same dealer I bought it from and I make sure that they know that I am coming to make room for me. Well I got there and the only place to put the unit effectively blocked everyone else in. So as I am going through my list of issues with the rep a couple walks by and she says "How do you like your Voltage?" I said "I hate it" wish I had never bought it! She says WHY??? I said "get with me after this and I will tell you" the rep and I finish up and she goes in the print out the estimate. A short time after that as I am unhooking the unit the service manger comes out and says " Hay you can just take it somewhere else as we don't need you telling people our RV's suck!" I am a little older and a little more calmer than I used to be or I would have ended up in jail (again)! ๐Ÿ˜„ I did the WTH and he told me what his rep said! Well to make a long story longer I had a closed door talk with him as he knows me and he knows I don't like the unit! He said how would you like it if someone told you the unit you just bought sucked! I said SHE ASKED ME as I do not know them from Adam and how in the hell would I know that they bought the same unit as mine! More was said and at the end I think he knew he screwed up! NOW that being said I have a long memory and a lot of RV folks that go to that dealer on my recommendation! I think that will change but I am going to wait and see how the repairs come out and see if I get an apology before making that call!

Well it would appear to some that you must Lie to your fellow Man in order not to offend some!

In short! I did have an appointment booked weeks in advance.
I get the impression some you you think I went around with a bull horn expressing my displeasure! All conversations were normal and polite!

So all you nay Sayers would have done what when asked a question about your equipment from someone you do not know!

1. Say Nothing (I have no comment)
2. Lie
3. Answer the question.

If you are scared express your First Amendment rights then you have deeper issues in your life! The spoken truth is better than any lie you could tell.

I am Done! ๐Ÿ™‚ No more comments from me on this thread.
If you feel compelled to continue this PM me.

I gotta agree with what appears to be the majority on how the situation shoulda/coulda been handled better. I guess a question for me would be, do you REALLY HATE your RV, or do you hate the fact that you're having issues. You wanted the dealer to fix your issues, but you, in essence, trashed his product, in front of another customer. I probably woulda told you to take a hike too.

I've been where you were at.. problems with a dealer (albeit car dealer). I don't use the dealer anymore. I was cordial, polite, but firm in stating my problems, in front of other customers who were waiting at the service department. Had someone asked me how I liked my Dodge Challenger at the time, I woulda said, I love the car, just not happy with the current maintenance issues at this time and left it at that.

If you hate your RV, regardless of it's current state of repair (or disrepair), fine, but there's nothing wrong with stating that in a more reasonable and measured fashion. It's not about being politically correct. It's about being reasoned and measured in your evaluation.

I too do not believe the dealer owes you an apology and I would probably not even accept one from you if you wanted to come back. And I've never been known to be politically correct.

When I read the above statement first thing that came to mind was.........did you have/make an 'appointment' OR did it go just like your statement says......called them/I'm bring my unit in/showed up :H

As for 'speaking your mind'.......
I'm all for that. Fact is it is how I function every day.
Thing is about speaking your mind you also have to recognize how what you say is taken and that you also must OWN what you say. That requires accepting the consequences of your statements also.

You spoke your mind.......Dealership took issue.
Consequence is you now have to find another place for repairs.
So be it!

Might want to make an appointment first vs showing up with the new place.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

As far as naming the dealership, well it should not be too hard to see who it is. Now that being said up until that point I have had good relations with the dealer / service dept. I know that they did not build the unit and I understand they are sometimes in the middle between us and the factory! They catch all the hell and none of the glory! But is that grounds for telling a customer you are not welcome hear if you speak the truth about YOUR unit when asked? IMHO if it was such a concern they could have asked me to talk to the lady with them present and I would have done so! The point of talking to her later was to keep my in processing moving along and get out of the way! It was not my intent to publicly shame the dealer! If I meant to do that I would put a poster on back of the RV as I went down the road for all to see! Yes, losing my business will not hurt them in any way! And Yes if my host asked if the dinner was good? to be polite I would say yes! If she charged me money for burned meatloaf HELL NO!

It's not about political correctness. It's about YOU coming into my place of business and running your mouth about the products and services and anything else that I do or sell to or in front of other customers. That is not going to be allowed in my place of business; Period. Obviously you ran into someone else with the same standards.

When I was in business doing Rv repair I was fortunate to have super customers on a local basis. It was like they were qualified to do business there. You have just been told you no longer QUALIFY to do business with those folks. Move on and at the next place behave yourself. The worst customers I had to do business with were from California. As for an apology, you can't be serious.

Thanks for your honest opinion. I don't think anyone is saying you are at fault for the condition of your unit. Of course, you are not. You are responsible as to how you act and react when interfacing with others in connection to getting your unit fixed. What some of us are saying that if you want a solution to your problem, maybe, just maybe, a different approach would have worked better. You are free to accept or disregard any advice offered on this thread. I do think at least it generated a good dialogue for the next Voltage owner who is in a similar situation as to how they might want to approach the situation.

Someone asked WWDTS referring to Donald Trump. DT would not have to say anything. He'd buy the dealership and fire the manager and discontinue the line. If you have the money to do that, then problem solved. Cheers. Mike

So I go back to my original question. Why does the dealer owe you an apology?

It seems you and the dealer had that open and honest conversation you espoused, but now you want to pistol whip the dealer. Real Tolerance? - or was that a one way street?

While I would be scared to death to have them to do maintenance or repairs in the future and if you knew and understood the dealer may not be you're best friend, it is how you felt and you were just being honest. I don't know how much if any run around you may have gotten in the past so it is hard to judge you or the dealer.

I have made errors in the past when purchasing items and if I paid tens of thousands for one I would be a little touchy too. If the dealer was working with you to make things better, well one of the previous posts said it best. It would have been better to say that there were some problems but the two of you were working it out.

But if you knew the consequences of your actions, it was your decision and maybe the lady you answered will make her own decision.

It has nothing to do with being PC. It has everything to do with what the OP wants to get out of the situation. If he wants his unit fixed quickly and correctly, he is best taking the advice offered above, including perhaps apologizing to the dealer (even though he may have to swallow his pride and the apology is fake). If OPs end game is to make a political statement about the RV he bought, then by all means, he should trash the dealer and the rep. But why stop at candidly talking to the inquiring stranger? Post bad reviews at Yelp, make a sign and stand outside the dealership to warn away potential customers, call the BBB, etc. If he does the latter, then he probably should not hold out hope that the dealer/rep are going to do anything but the absolute minimum, if that, to help him. It all depends on what the OP wants to achieve in the situation. So, think about the end game (what YOU, OP want to achieve-that informs your tactics), then think about the other person and what would best motivate THEM to get YOU to where YOU want to be, then take action accordingly. I agree it feels better to vent and rage and all that. But think about when people vent and rage at you. Does that make you want to do what they are telling YOU to do? Probably not. Remember--think strategically, act tactically and tactfully. Cheers! Mike

I had to go back and re-read all the posts cause I thought I missed something. I couldn't find any that said the OP should Lie!

I saw things like "less confrontational", "polite, calm", "smarter", "tact", no where did I see lie.

And now he probably expects to get good service. Let's see how that works out.

Why does the dealer owe you an apology? It seems you deliberately started a confrontational situation in the dealers house and the dealer said you could leave. Truth or not, If your friend asked you to come over for dinner, would you tell him the lasagna was the worse thing you ever had and you wish you would have stayed home and ate hamburgers? Tact is King.
