I will repeat what the attendant at Costco said, they get their price changes from California at 6 am PST so on the east coast you should buy gas before 9 am if the price is rising, or after 9 am if falling.

I paid $2.99 for regular at a station in Tucson yesterday and it was NOT discounted price of any kind. But the diesel remains in the upper $3 range.

I have noticed a big swing between stations that tells me that the prices of new deliveries are coming down and it pays to look around. I am seeing as much as a dime between stations for a few days and then they are the same again.

Prices are continuing the downward drift. Gas Buddy reports prices at a lot of stations at $3.27. Paid $3.23 at Sam's Club last week. I imagine that the diesel prices are a lot higher.

Works out to one diesel fill on my empty 40 gallon tank with enough left over for a hotdog and Coke. Woo-Woo! Gets me and my rig halfway to the Grandkids.

Suppose that instead of subsidizing oil companies with $50billion per year that the government were to send a pump gas subsidy check to every driver in the USA? Using that same $50billion?

How much would you get?

How much would foreign oil company owners lose?

How much would foreign gas consumers lose?

Has any country done that? What was the result?

In the current financial climate it has become a balancing act to keep the retirement "nest egg" principal intact. We cut back on our trips this past summer as the gasoline hovered around $3.90 a gallon. I'm really bummed as the price of gasoline has dropped during the non-camping season. We could "do" trips with gasoline closer to $3.00 than $4.00. Motor home will slumber until May 1st 2012 in it's garage.

Sure glad we didn't upgrade to a diesel a few years ago. Love the ride but not the price of diesel.

From the early 80's up until Desert Storm, gas averaged $1.10/gal, during the war it went up to $1.40.

Every summer it creeped to $1.30 which was no big deal. When Desert Shield started, it went to over $2/gal and creeped towards $3. After Katrina hit it went to over $4/gal and of course people would welcome sub-$3/gal gas.

I have receipts from 2003 when it started to creep up and it was $1.35/gal.

Sure investors play a major role but keep giving us the lies. Keep jacking the prices up more...then the stores lose the business, restaurants, anyplace that's not a grocery store or a "staple" business.

We used to spend about $50 a week in fuel for 2 cars now it's $140 ish. We just cut the extra spending so who really loses? Local businesses for the most part, just another downfall for this country.

Yes I understand other countries pay much more, 2-3 times more but you cannot compare us to them. We feel we can increase inflation and cut taxes, other countries give 1 year off of work with pay for a new child.

So if you want to raise fuel prices, yes I will pay it, but others lose out also....sorry, i'm not eating out, going bowling, skiing, movies, etc with fuel prices the way they are.

Looks like many stations are at $3.29. Rumbles on the news about $4.00 gasoline. One never knows.......:R

Ah, yes, gasoline prices here continue to drift downward. From a low of $3.29 to $3.37 with many around $3.32. Going to get interesting as the Dow continues it's slide. Hold onto your hats, here we go......:E

Sounds like you may have run into what we've found in Nebraska and Iowa. It was hard to figure out what to get by the names they gave the different fuels.

Exactly, I was wondering if there was a difference in millage between the 85 and 87. When they are both the same price, seems crazy to get the lower octane, but I thought there must be a good reason.

I've gone across Neb. and Iowa a couple times and saw signs indicating the Super was cheaper than Regular. As I understand it, the "super" has more corn syrup in it, and that it's subsidized so can be sold for less. I've been told that it gets less miles per gallon.

I think it's acknowledged that the heavily subsidized E-85 gets roughly 25% less mileage, but was intended to be sold for less. I pass a station that has it, and a few years ago it was 50 or 75ยข cheaper per gallon. Recently it's just a little cheaper, something like 15ยข.

I wouldn't bet my life on that information about Nebraska/Iowa. It kept me confused all the way to Davenport and back.
