Next spring we are planning a 6000 mile trip; Houston, Dallas, OKC, KC, Denver, Cheyenne, Yellowstone, SLC, Grand Canyon, Santa Fe, Carlsbad, Houston.

Our rig gets 350-400 miles per tank. Would an auxiliary tank in the TV bed a prudent measure? Or is there enough places to buy diesel at fair prices we don't have to worry?

I would start looking at 1/2 tank I have never had a problem finding diesel. Gas Buddy is your friend. Just have to ask isn't Houston once enough?:B

There is a Texas plated car driving around the resort here with a bumper sticker that says, "When Obama took office gas was 1.97 a gallon". I'm a foreigner so don't quite get the political meaning here, but I'm thinking he might want to remove that sticker now. ๐Ÿ™‚

Post your question on "General RVing Issues"

Personally I would just carry a 5 full of diesel, you should be fine.

you should know the rule of the West, when you can fill up do so.
I did your trip less Yellowstone but with many other stops all over the West with a 25 gallon tanks on a rig that got maybe 10.5 mpg.

We normally need to whiz every 200 mile +/- so we fill up the truck and empty the bladder. New truck and larger trailer, the truck gets bett mpg and the truck now has 36 gallon tank, still have to whiz.

Hi

300 miles would be more than adequate between fuel stops unless it is a major holiday when nearly everything is closed.

We try to never get below 1/4 tank. In my travels to all of the lower 48, I have only come close to running out of fuel once and that was due to driver error. My coach can far out run my bladder.

Florida likes the small print or none at all. Seen several stations with small disclaimers for price of fuel, like must use Marathon credit card. Some post one thing but the pump says different. Buyer beware
