Sewer Hookup @ Home?

I am parking right next to my garage, so power and water are easy. I am going to add 30AMP service myself, and water is already there.

Has anybody ever added a sewer hookup at their house? How easy is it, can I just route to the cleanout or tap anywhere into the sewer line? I don't want to use the flexible hose - I want to connect a real pipe to the motorhome and just pull the levers when it gets to 2/3 full.

Any thoughts or insight on the sewer would be appreciated.

I did not have enough slope in my yard so I used a macerator pump into a 1 1/2" PVC underground to my septic. I chipped a small piece off one of the septic doors for the pipe and filled in around it with quickrete.

My reasoning exactly. Even though I have a 30 amp RV with no plans to upgrade, I installed a 50/30/20 pedestal at home. If I was going to do the work, I made dang sure that I only did it once.

(I also installed a cable/satellite connection and a phone line at the same time. And no, I did not run them through the same conduit. I ran 2 conduits, one for power, one for everything else.)

When I bought my macerator, I was dumping about 18" uphill.

I have since moved and no longer dump uphill, but my 75' length of 1" hose barely reaches my 4" cleanout plug.

I only use my macerator when I have to. If I can use the stinky slinky, I do.

What you do depends on where your sewer pipe is located. When I added a concrete slab to the side of my house for the RV, my main sewer line and clean out was about 20' away and downhill from the slab. I was lucky and just ran a 3" line to the main sewer line.

Many, may only have a clean out on the side of their house. In this situation, a macerator pump works well. Some in make a hard line to the clean out and do a quick connection when needed.

No macerator needed for our setup. The line to the septic tank runs right behind our coach parking spot.

In my case,
1) the trailer dump tube if barely above cleanout level
2) I'm about 40ft from the cleanout
3) after using the macerator pump I've also decided it is easier and quicker to use the pump and a 1" dia water hose to flush than hooking up the sewer hose and putting it away again. takes less than a minute to hook up and same to unhook and store the hose.

I have the "water" hose coiled up under the porch, and just pull it out, hook it up and dump away. no slinky to mess with.

Now if your above the cleanout and only a short distance away, the slinky may be quicker and easier.

My thoughts are that you don't need to use the top of the cleanout as your elevation difference. You may have up to 3 or 4 feet of additional vertical fall if you tie into the pipe under the surface somewhere.
