So who likes those new LED strip lights on the front of RVs?

Gotta say, I now have my first experience with someone across from me on my last camping trip that had those long 3' LED lights in a "V" shape on the front of his nice, new, big AF 5th wheel...

Turned them on just before dusk and kept them on until dawn....

Lit up the whole campground with them too... ๐Ÿ™‚

Right into the side window next to the bed.. I was about 75 yards or so away from him. Had to put up a towel over the window to cover it, it was so bright..

I don't have black out blinds, but after this experience and if this is going to become a trend, I'm going to be getting them..

I'm calling him Mr. Obnoxious ha, ha!

No, I'm not going to tell him to turn them off... Obviously, he feels the need to do it, so I'll not intrude on his right to do so.

They have 'quiet time' rules in the State Park I'm in, but no 'bright light time' rules, so he is entitled to do as he pleases.

I figured out the way to block it, so no big deal, but this is maybe only the second or third time in over 15 years of camping with this trailer that I've had to do that with the towel over the window..

Not really a 'rant' as such, but just wondering why this is something that looks to be a factory installed item, as it looks to be molded into the front of the 5th wheel by the manufacturer?

I have pics of it, but it's dark and does not really show how bright they really are, so no point in posting them.

I know I can do the whole 'boondock' thing and get away from people, and if I'm not willing to do that, then I have to accept it.. I know that.

But, just saying... ๐Ÿ™‚

Ha, ha!

Rip away people, because I know you all do when I post things like this! ๐Ÿ™‚

That CG I mentioned above where each site had a street light is when I realized that maybe the majority of RV'er 'do' come from the city where there is a ton of white light at night My fellow campers seemed to have no problem with their very own street light at the end of their campsite.

I thought sadly for them that they felt so comfortable being parked in the light all night. I on the other hand live in a very rural area on several acres where when the sun goes down it's literally pitch black except for the clear view of the stars overhead!

You do get accustom to the dark. I've walked my pastures in the dark and between the moon clear skies and stars that's plenty of light for me. Wouldn't have it any other way. :C

Nothing better than being at a dark sky campground where the milky way stands out, and a few jerks light it up like downtown Pittsburgh.
Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?

Any excessive lighting left on all night is annoying. I like to leave windows open & shades up for the fresh air if heating or A/C is not needed.

Seen those lights on the front. Who thought that was a good idea? If a light must be left on all night, for reasons beyond me, at least it should be shielded by the awning & not be a bright white any kind of light.

We had the same situation a few weeks ago in a commercial CG in Maine. THe first night this guy was there, he lit up the CG with his bright blue V shaped lights. He also had a very bright white LED on the hitch jack as well as the under awning LED's . Very annoying while outside, but we have good shades so there was no impact inside our coach. I think it was a brand new RV, at least it looked that way.
I don't know if someone said something, but the next night and for the rest of his stay, the V lights and hitch jack light were off.

I don't understand why some park owners do this, unless they have some irrational fear, or are catering to guests with irrational fears.

I know for a fact security cameras work much better in total darkness than they do with random lights scattered around. So improving security is not a valid excuse.

On my last trip I inadvertently left my porch light on all night, not my usual practice. My door doesn't have a window and the switch blends in with the others on the switch bank, easy to do. Now on my "to do" list is install an interior indicator light that shows when the porch light is on. Might as well install indicators for the scare lights as well.
I inadvertently turned my scare light on by accident in Ouray CO campground. It was lined up perfectly with the bedroom window of the camper next to me. I did not discover it was on until the next morning.

I went over to apologize when they were up. They were nice about it and said they just put a blanket over the window. They were on vacation from the Netherlands. I felt bad and invited them for Dinner, they brought a couple of bottles of wine. They even sent me a Christmas postcard. To this day I make sure no outside lights are on.

Thanks for the support Uncle Bob! I noticed the next night that he did indeed have his porch light on too.. (so it was not a case where he didn't know he had it on the night before..)

It's at least 5" round LED light and it was casting quite the light on his next door neighbor. Could see the whole profile of his trailer from my site!

Once we turned in, just put the towels back up again and it was fine inside the trailer, but what if we wanted to spend some time outside under the awning... We would have had that big a$$ V thing shining right into our porch... We were at the coast, so it was too wet and cold to sit out, but still....

Anyway, other than the people walking thru my site and the kids riding their bikes thru it as well, it was another trip in the books! ๐Ÿ™‚

Got those running lights with new campers. Mine got dancing lights of red, white, green... I call it disco light. I only used the clear white lights and very rarely past 9 pm.

And yes, people go camping for the peace and quiet.

A judicious used of high beams and snow-melting fog lights from your truck that is adjusted to face that site may garnish attention, LOL.

IMHO, do what you want in your site. When it spills over into mine, ya gotta give a little to be a good neighbor. But when it is obnoxious in your site because of the lack of manners by others...they surrender their 'right to light' LOL.

Only had 2 situations with light issues.

First was in our early days of canvas bunks. First time there and the host didn't know his back scare light was on. The entire canvas illuminated, LOL. Apologies all around for disturbing each other, followed by a good week of shared lunches and activities by most of the surrounding campers. Made all good friends there.

Second was one of those V's designed to direct light towards others' sites. Nope. Same as headlights, IMHO. I spoke to host, who said go ahead back to my site and he'd come by in a few mins to look for himself.

I told him we didn't say anything all evening, but it was well past time everyone was in bed.

Heard a knock-knock across the way...dogs barking, kids screaming, even a few gun shots...just kidding, LOL. Simple as pie. They found the switch and turned it off. Next nights, it wasn't on.

I think it was a new camper and they didn't know where the switch was or how bright it was.

I stopped on my walk past the next day and thanked them for turning them off. Said they look cool, but really throw a lot of light our way. Also mentioned that we, like most people, turn most if not all our outside lights off when we turn in for the night.

Nice people. Sometimes tech bites you ๐Ÿ˜‰
