Solving an age-old beer dilemma...

Like most of you, I'm sure, I"ve been trying to conjure up a way to bring kegged homebrew with me on camping trips. Particularly to race-camping trips where 24/7 electricity might not be available. Here's what I've come up with.

First - I bought two plastic storage containers and lined them with rigid foam cut to fit the containers. I then used spray foam in all the gaps. I took care to make sure that the containers with foam in them gave me enough room for my home-brew kegs.


Next - I built a tap tower out of some PVC. I went with a tower to get the faucets up to an easier pour height. These were secured to the top of the now flipped-over 2nd storage container.


Then added the CO2 manifold out back


The finished product:


Time for a test run!

well look at that. never knew such a thing existed. kinda jacks up the price of the project, but cool.

This is gonna get used, primarily, in the rear end of my toy hauler though...so burning propane is out of the question for that. but interesting...never seen a propane powered fridge before (outside of our RV fridges).

There are stand alone propane refrigerators and/or Propane coolers out there. I am sure more expensive and heavier to haul around. But probably quite miserly on gas. So no messing with ice.example

I found a few of those coolers - every one I found was just a whisker too short to hold a 5 gallon keg, also getting two in was going to be kinda tight too. At least on the ones I saw...but I did consider that avenue for sure.

I'm 18 hours into a rather small load of ice i put in yesterday and it's still frozen even after cooling down the test keg I put in there. No condensation on the outside either. So far, I'm pleased...or buzzed. Gotta test it extensively you know 🙂

Put you keg in a dorm sized fridge and plumb through the sides. Plug it in to an outside outlet to cool the fridge. Can also keep a few bottles of wine in there too.

On edit....Oops...you wanted it to be non-electric. Sorry. Can't you find a tall top lid cooler chest you can convert? I know they are out there. I've seen em. Just can't remember where. Not that you need another one. You already have what you need. But if you need another...and who wouldn't want more than one...
