Tips on installing Back-up trailer assist on 16' F150?

Hi,

Tonight I will install the Back-up Trailer Assist on my new 2016 F-150. I have read the owner manual, I have watched 2 videos on youtube (1 from Ford, and 1 private).

I'm nervous about doing this. I want to do it right so that feature will serve me right once installed. Instructions in the manual are long...

Any tips, warnings, etc from owners of 2015-2016 F-150 who have installed it?

Thanks

Marc

well did you go to Woodall's??
Because on the Woodall's site i can post these %%%%%%%%%% all I want.
It is the one issues I have seen with posting on RV.net. The Photobucket folder that I have all our 5er pictures in has the (%) in the link, and will not post on RV.net.

Getting more and more so...have to log off, click on the "reply to topic" button.

Log in, write and then "post message"

Have learned to copy all the text before clicking "post message", as many times
it barfs...and have to log out again and repeat that cycle

This is just one of many on the portal. Woodalls used to be my main...until it
too started to hang just like rv.net/forums...and now rv.net/forums is better...for now...

On topic...IMHO...this talent to back up a trailer will be lost just
like parallel parking...

There are certain things that can't post one of which seems to be the percent sign. To post the reply or update copy in to the same thread on the Woodalls forum.

I'm trying to post an update, but it doesn't go through. I guess my post is too long.

Well here is a demo of the Pro Assist system!
Demo

What I learned years ago when towing a 20' sail boat behind a slightly modified 1964 Ford Econoline Panel Van.

This tip was in the towing section of Sail Magazine.

When backing up your trailer, place your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel and simply push the wheel the direction you want the back of the trailer to go! :S Wow, that is simple, and it works, Fords design, turn the knob the direction you want the trailer to go. :h

I have used this method every since, I also "palm" the wheel so the movement is continuous. I am not perfect, but do very well.

The Ford system will not guarantee you are going put your trailer where you want it, just will keep you from jack-knifing it.

Let us know how well you like it after you swing your front fender into the tree, fence, etc because you were so focused on the knob & rear view camera.

I have resisted setting mine up. Just think doing it the old fashion way is best for my set up. My feeling is that the system works best for smaller trailers / boats. Good luck! let everyone know how it performs once you have it set up.

LOL! I have a similar device on my 2001 Ram, but mine flip up, and are powered.

I have to agree, the best back up assist devices are the mirrors closely followed by a spotter(dw in my case)

Looks neat, but seems to make the whole process a bit more complicated... Then again, I've been towing trailers almost as long as I've been driving.

Interested in the update on how well it works with a TT!

Here is one I found on search, looks simple, just use the correct unit of measurement depending if you are north or south of the Canadian boarder.

Seems to take a bit to activate to backup.
