Not some well my brothers, sisters, nephew's inlaws I heard got kicked out deal. I mean "you."

What happened? Did the cops come and tell you to leave? Did the Wally World manager tell you to leave? Did mall cop come on his scooter and tell you to leave? Anybody?

Yes I have been evicted from a WM in Florida. Local cop banged on door and said we had to leave because of local ordinance. I explained that a local CG had sent us there because they were full. He just smiled and said the campground owners were the ones who pushed for the ordinance. Still had to move.

Yes, but only twice and we've stayed in many, many Walmarts. We don't stay if there are "No Overnight Parking" signs.

Small Walmart, not opened at night. The cops told us that we might get towed if we stayed.

Anchorage, Alaska - lot guard told us overnight RV parking was not allowed.

On the other hand we had the manager of a Walmart come out to welcome us and point out the best parking space for watching the fireworks show that a local business was putting on that night.

Overnight parking ordinances in my area are aimed at people in the neighborhoods who use the public streets as free parking facilities for their recreation vehicles. In some areas it is the commercial long haul truckers that they do not want parked overnight or leaving their trailers parked in the area for days at a time. The local officials are seldom concerned about an RVer parked for the night who will be gone in the morning.

There are many small towns that provide places for RVer's to stay overnight. They probably figure that the longer they stay the more money they will spend with local merchants. I have learned of these places through the local chambers of commerce and not the usual RV camping directories and websites.

I pulled in a walmart in wisc. and then saw the no overnite sign. A cop was just coming thru and I asked where I could go. He sent me out to the casino about 4 miles out. When I pulled in the security pulled up and asked it I wanted to park and said follow me. He showed me the area in back and said to park anywhere and showed the door to go in. Another time at a walmart had no overnite but an employee said to go next door to Sams cause they closed at nite.

Before you go in, go around back and check the dumpster. You'd be surprised what they throw away.

In the central valley of California where we once lived you would be a fool to stay at the Walmart. I would have supported a ban on staying there as there were always old junky broken down RVs and bad looking people there.

I personally would never stay in one. Did Flying J 1 time got no sleep at all.

I think its an urban legend. I've had a manager tell me to ask my kids to quit playing with the shopping carts, but I told him they were just helping him put them away (wink).

After offering him a juicy burger hot off the grill and a cold beer to wash it down with, he ended up pulling up a lawn chair and hung out for 5 or 6 hours. He even went back into the store and brought out another case.

No, I have overnighted on city streets, Walmarts, truck stops, shopping malls, other retail stores, rest areas, and restaurants. I have never been asked to leave any overnight location.

Heck, back in my motorcycle touring days I tossed out a bag and slept on the ground in many places. Sometimes under a store overhang, a picnic table, sometimes on a picnic table. Never been asked to leave. Have even slept in homes under construction, scooted quick when workers started arriving to avoid confrontation.

Another advantage of Walmart camping is that every Walmart looks the same. That means when you stop there to camp you can tell the kids you're in Orlando Florida when you're really in Tupelo Mississippi. Heck, I've camped at our local wally world and told them we were in California. I even had the wife convinced this lady that was unloading her groceries was Oprah Winfrey.

If you camp overnight, may as well stay a week and soak up the free hospitality while fantasizing about your "exotic" Walmart location.

Way to go Wal-Mart!
Thanks for the laugh. If they want to repay the community, they would be more generous in salary and benefit packages to the people who work there - who BTW are from the community.

RVers who overnight there are merly passing through.

Don't believe everything you read.

Statements like the above ignore that all retail stores including Walmart pay property taxes, payroll taxes, income taxes, sales taxes, school taxes, hire local contractor and service companies, and pay many other taxes. The employees have jobs, pay income taxes, pay property taxes, spend money at other area businesses, etc. Capitalism is STILL a good thing.
