What are your fall camping plans?

Fall is our favorite time of the year for camping. We usually stay close to home to enjoy the great AR fall weather. The weather is usually good thru November with the occasional short cold snap. We have at least three trips planned. Heading to Branson for a long Labor Day weekend then going to Beaver Lake in NW AR for a week later in October. We like to hit some of the craft fairs up there. But my favorite is our annual trip to the National Forrest to meet up with our friends at deer camp. We stay at least a week and sometimes longer if the weather is OK. Living off the grid in the middle of nowhere is the way to go. We take turns cooking and the food is fantastic. Lots of dutch oven cooking and cast iron kettles over the campfire.

We are going to tent camp on the beach at the National seashore in South Texas. Planning to try a few state parks close to Rockport. Maybe 3 or 4 hours from here. Looking forward to it.

We plan on taking lots of slow roads. The DW's LAST work day is Sept. 30. We're going to see grand chillens in Columbus oh then mozy on down to Jacksonville Fla for Thanksgiving and more chillens. After that? Who knows! See'ya on the road.

We also like fall as our prime camping time. We are heading to the western slope in the middle of Sept. for 4-5 days. We will then do the rest of the season on the Front Range with the turning of the Aspens. Our final camping trip last fall was the 3rd week in Oct. and had snowfall then. A great time of year to camp and lots of sites available then.

Our favourite time of year for camping is fall. Up until 2 years ago we always camped the end of september about 200 miles north of Chapleau Ontario, in a tent. It was wonderful, we would not see a sole for over 2 weeks. No cell... no services at all. We carried in water and gas for the boat. There was never an airplane flying above. It was cool during the day and cold at night. Not fun digging a hole in the middle of the night if nature called. We had our nightly visitors, we respected the bears and they never bothered us or our stuff. We would see the same ones daily. We have not had time to do this lately but miss it immensely. Taking the TT is not an option. We plan to take the TT out this fall, where? We don't like planning ahead.

We are heading to the Eastern Sierras. Sometimes there is a pretty good cold snap and we are able to see the Aspens turn but not always. We love the area and usually stay near Tom's Place off 395. Lots of excellent fishing between Twin Lakes-Bishop. The only concern has been the drought, and fires are always a concern when things are so dry.

Probably a weekend at Camp Driveway while we winterize, then a trip to the storage building.

We did that last year, it is fun. Make sure you ride end to end and not to the lunch stop and back. Both sections have some boring spots but both also have some really beautiful scenery.

We like to camp near the Starve Rock area in Utica Illinois. Problem is they had some severe storms in July, knocked down so many trees most of the walking trails are closed. Mattison State park which is near wasn't affected but is limited as far as trails go. I'm sure they will be packed where it won't be much fun walking shoulder to shoulder.

None this year, after the last week in September, we're finished until December (planning another Florida trip over Christmas week). Reason we're not planning any fall trips is because of our work schedule. My wife and I, both being in IT, have demands upon that simply will not let us get away (very far) this Fall. But after November, the mad push is over!

We love Fall camping as well, heck we enjoy camping Spring and Summer too. We don't have anything specifically planned, but we have many favorite spots here in the four corner states for watching the leaves turn color. We may go to the Good Sam's get together in our state late September as we have never attended in the past. With so many places to go within a days ride, we just go on a whim wherever our hearts desire. We keep our rig plugged in and stocked in our side yard ready to go in a moment's notice. Happy Fall Camping!!!
