What is the average hourly repair rate?

I need some work done on my 5er. My selling dealer is long gone, as is the repair shop I have been using. I've called a couple places, a brick and mortar shop was about $100 (and booked way out), a mobile RV repair guy was $125.

I am curious what the going rate for RV repair is in your area?

TOO MUCH !!

I don't go to them but, just for giggles I requested a quote to re-coat the rubber roof on my 20 foot TT.

They said 1000 dollars.

I hung up the phone. I found a way to do it myself in a afternoon for under 300.

Mind telling us which coating you used?

I don't know how it will last in the long run. But on my 24 year old TT it was the best option.

Currently changing out the OEM Lippert (cheap)equalizer and shackles for MorRyde 3000 equalizer and shackle wet bolt kit. I supplied the parts.

The price from 3 shops was $120hr. 2 other shops was $80hr.

I generally do most work myself, however this change-out had to be done by a RV shop as I do not have all the equipment required to lift the frame and axles.

When you go to a shop, you're paying for the technician's wages and benefits, rent, property taxes, electricity and other overhead, shop supplies, and of course some profit for the business.

$100-120 an hour seems about the average these days.

It certainly is worthwhile and satisfying to do some work one's self, at least for a retired person. Routine maintenance like oil changes are well worth learning. I have only had our small MH in shops for brake maintenance and new tires in the 9 years we've had it. That will end soon when spark plug replacement time comes up. I need a real mechanic to take care of that.

The increasing complexity of vehicles has really reduced the maintenance done by owners over the last few decades. Some of it doesn't seem healthy, like designs that require you to take a wheel and wheel well off to change an alternator belt on a car. Make work for the dealerships?

Sacramento Ca area.
I bought a 2011 Aspect 28B from a private owner.
He said he just had the oil changed.
I looked at the receipt the shop charged him 1 hour for the oil filter, oil and air filter change. DID NOT LUBE IT.
$120 per hour.
Charged him for 7.5 qrts of oil , it only takes 6.5.
Cheap $5 frame oil filter and charged him $9 for it.
And cheap frame air filter $16.32
Total came in at $75.10 parts and $120.00 labor !
$200.92 for a simple oil/filter and air filter change WOW!

Went and bought 7 qrts of full synth oil, Wix filter and changed it myself.
Less than $50.00 for parts and took me longer to drain the oil into my recycle jug then it did to change out the oil and filter..

So $120 labor WOW !

Worthless stats!..:R

"Their price doesn't include shop rates"..

*NO* correlation to what *YOU* are charged for service/repairs..:S

Those stats do give you a good idea what the shops/dealers are ripping you off for. ๐Ÿ™‚

RV shop repair rates here in Alberta, Canada start at around $150.00/hr. Outrageous in my mind so I do most of my own service work. I have a good friend who is a journeyman RV repairman and I can lean on him from time to time to help out with things that are beyond my capacity to troubleshoot or repair.

Cheers!

That RV mobile repair guy must be from a dealership moonlighting!! Or it IS a dealership advertising for on site mobile repair!

In 10 years of traveling I have never had a mobile repair guy charge THAT much per hour! Yes some charge a trip charge but most deduct that if you have work done. I have never paid more than $60 per hour for mobile repair.

Call the closet CG to where you are and ask the CG owner who they use for mobile repair. THEY know who the honest and good mobile repair guys are and they have so much work they usually do NOT advertise on line etc. They just leave their cards at CG's which keeps them busy 24/7's.

Mobile Techs in Michigan were typically 85.00 an hour.
In South Carolina they were 200.00 an hour, at least the ones we shopped or utilized.
In Michigan there are Mobile Techs in just about every town it seems.
At Dealer CW charged 125.00 an hour but that was some time ago.
