took my 2011 Forester River RV into Ford dealer for check engine light.
I bought it on Nov of 2010, I was informed by the dealer that my Ford powertrain warranty ran out on 7/5/13 (19 days ago). Ford came with 3 years / 36k miles warranty, so my warranty shouldn't ran out till November 2013. or did Forester bought the chassis from Ford on 7/5/10, that it starts its warranty then ?

thanks.

It should start start from the days your bought it from the the Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier (i.e. MH manufacturer).
Ours was a year old but never sold/put into service until we purchased it from the MH dealer. It needed new wiper blades when were we driving home, the Ford dealer did not have any record of the vehicle in their computer at the time. It took about a week for the MH dealer to get the 'paper' work to Winnebago, then Winnebago to Ford(US0 and then have it forwarded to Ford(Canada). The Ford dealer did honor the warranty and said that they would deal with it after.

You would have to check with your MH and/or Forrester to see when the MH was original put into service, possibly as a demo.

First, you rarely, if ever, by direct from the manufacturer of the coach.
Second, the warranty starts on the first day of the first retail sale. Both the dealer and the manufacturer are supposed to fill out reports that go to the chassis manufacturer that state the date of sale and the mileage.
If the coach has a 12,000 mile warranty and the coach had, say, 2000 miles on it from delivery to the dealership, then the mileage warranty is good for 14,000 miles.

It starts when the selling RV dealer sends Ford the documentation certifying sale to first retail customer. RV dealers are not very good at this, I found the blank certificate in my motorhome documents package. When I registered the VIN as a new owner, in-service date in the system was sales date of chassis to Winnebago.

Without this information, Ford will back up to either date of manufacture or date of sale to vehicle modifier, if that got documented and put into Ford's database. Some RV manufacturers don't even bother to do that.

A servicing dealer has to use the date in Ford's database, that's what determines whether he gets paid to do the work. If you have supporting documentation about the initial sale, you should be able to get the date corrected, but it sure helps if the selling dealer will cooperate and sign the paperwork.

Find out what the "In Service Date" is, this is when the warranty starts officially.

That is the answer and that date is when the end customer takes delivery of the vehicle.

Ask if they will accept the date on your original owner title as proof, You should have that and it's easy to mail off a notarized copy.

And do not be afraid of reporting the dealer to the company either. My dealer did not file all the paperwork either (NOT a ford) and this is a SAFETY issue as it means you will not get recall information.

Thanks.

I ran carfax, it shows car was never registered till I did on 10/22/10, manufacturer date was 7/2/10.

I called Ford customer service, they confirmed truck was manufactured on 7/2/10.

lady referred me to send an email to claims@nmc.com

they emailed me back and said my dealer failed to file a Warranty Start Date Update Request. I will have to call the original dealer to submit a claim.

called the RV dealer 3 times, no answer....left messages........

Get in touch with a Ford Representative and get him to correct the dealers confusion........

Warranty period starts the day you sign papers....if purchased new.

That is somewhat true Old Biscuit, however some dealers has been known to report it sold to get a year end final rebate that would effect the inservice date. The inservice date is what they go by not the sold date however rightfully they both should be the same.

Should start on the date shown on the bill of sale. However you may have to write a letter to Ford.. Address it to the CEO.

True story... (Note, I am aware of several stories like this some involve Ford). GM was holding a press conference, The CEO ask one reporter if he had a GM car, (he did) and are you happy with it? "Well......" The CEO ask what the problem was and the reporter explained that the dealer was given them the run around on a service issue.

By the time the news conference had ended, A porter had driven a loaner out to the reporter's house, picked up the defective car, taken it in, the mechanics had fixed it and the porter had returned it and picked up the loaner.

IT pays to go to the top some times.

Copy all documents, contact your legal representative (lawyer) just in cuss.

Our 2004 Chevy chassis warranty was the full 3 year GM warranty. The 2005 Roadtrek Coach warranty was for 5 years. Both started when we bought the vehicle.
