We lost our sweet Polly, our camping companion (dog), last Christmas. Gnocchi, our new kitty came to us that October, and has taken over the camping companion status from Polly.

I never noticed this before but when I look to check a campground's pet policies everything seems to be specific to dogs: how your pet must be kept on a leash no longer than 6', must be cleaned up after and if it is barking excessively you may be asked to leave.

I don't know about you, but none of this applies to my cat! She stays inside my fifth wheel, quieter than a mouse!

So when there is a "pet" fee does that apply to my cat?

We camp with two cats. They do walk around our campsite on a leash. And in our case it's not the cats that get dragged along. I do not recall ever getting charged the pet fee.

The place we're planning to stay this winter asked if we had pets, that they had a 2 pet policy. I told her 4 indoor-only cats. That they were not allowed outside with or without us. She said that was fine.

All above true......

But if cat goes outside (or any other type of pet) I would imagine 'leash' rules apply

Course most cats don't walk on a leash.......they just sorta get dragged along :B

But for their safety........need some type of restraint if for nothing more than to keep from running away if scared or another pet (DOG) approaches
Is it time for your medication or mine?

I agree, but I am also willing to bet that when you check into most campgrounds and mention a cat, you will be charged the "pet"fee.

I have two old, indoor only cats. When I check into a campground, if they ask about pets I reply "I do not have any dogs." Have not paid a pet fee yet.

There is a park in MI we where we stayed a few years ago. It says on their website "no pets." We wanted to stay there so I called and talked to the manager, explained my cats never leave the coach. She was very nice, explained the rule applies to outside pets only. It's in place because it's a family park with lots of children. Dog owners in the past hadn't been conscientious about picking up after their dogs, creating unsanitary conditions for the children at play. So now, any pet that poops outside is banned.

We have never been charged a pet fee and always say that we have three cats if asked.

Kids have a dwarf rabbit and when I ask about the pet fee I am always told no. He doesn't leave the RV.

Before our 20 year old dog Molly passed last year we were checking into Ft. Wilderness and when asked I told the clerk that we had an antique dog who was 20, she told us not to worry about it and did not charge the fee.

Condolences and prayers on your loss. BTW, cats aren't pets; they're managers and family members:W

No pet fee needed if they stay in your rv and use your stuff. We never mentioned our old cats. No one ever saw them and the only people they bothered was Herself and me when they were demanding room service.

I travel with my cat. When I make reservations and am asked about pets, I always tell them I have a cat. I have never been charged a "pet" fee.

We don't travel with a cat, but my guess is that there would be no fee at most campgrounds. I'm much more curious (and honest) than I am a tightwad, so I'd probably always mention it just to see if the charge was applied or not.

Sorry for your loss of Polly, I know it's very difficult.

It's up to the individual CG but, I'm sure if you mention an animal, the pet fee will be charged.

Maybe you could tell the CG operator Gnocchi is a trained attack cat and part of your security system, not a pet? ๐Ÿ™‚

We have traveled with 2 cats for 7 yrs now. If a campground/RV Park has posted that there is a "pet" fee, we've told them we have 2 cats. NEVER have we been charged for them. ๐Ÿ™‚

I'll bet if you tell the CG that you saw a 'stinkbug' in your RV, they would charge you the pet fee. If I had an 'invisible' indoor pet-I would 'forget' to mention it at check-in.
