Totally heartbroken

Last Thurs my 19 yr old tortie had to go to the vet as she was a bit dehydrated. She came home Friday night in good shape, eating, drinking etc. sat night she didn't seem like she was comfortable and by sun morning she could not lift her head up. I took her to emergency where they said her potassium level dropped and she was to stay. Monday her fluid and potassium levels were back up but my vet who is so awesome felt it was time for her to go as her body was tired and her kidneys were failing. I knew she was right so I went right over and held my baby and helped her cross the bridge. She looked so good, she never looked old but I could tell she wasn't comfortable and she let me put a towel over her which she only let me do when she was sick last year. It broke my heart in a million pieces to let her go but I promised her 18 yrs ago she would never suffer again. I kept that promise. Marble was an amazing cat with a personality like no other. I will love her and keep her in my heart forever. She has been cremated just like my other kitties and will be home next week. Losing 3 cats in 6 months is draining but I am so glad they were part of my life.

Thank you all for your kind words and offerings of strength. My heart is truly broken but I know for all 3 of them they had a great life here with us whether it was 6 months or 19 years. The 3 of them were loved and cared for and safe and will always be in our hearts. We still have 10 left and hope they also live healthy and long lives with us.

You were a good and faithful friend.

It is amazing for such small creatures, what huge holes they leave in our hearts when they go.

Awww Margie I am so sorry for your loss of Marble...I remember over the years all the loving stories of her.
It's tough for sure, I cried for months after my JJ died, he also was 19 and born at home.
Then last summer we lost our 18 yr. old Timmy, we adopted him from an abuse situation. His life had been so hard and we tried to make it all right for him, I think we did but it sure hurts when they leave.
We all know it's the kindest thing we can do for them.

19 years is a wonderful long life - not that it eases the heartache of losing a great companion. So sorry for the loss of your beloved Marble (((HUG)))

Thank you everyone. It truly has been a brutal 6 months for sure. I miss my babies and wish they didn't have to leave but their lives with us were without abuse or unkindness. We rescued them all and loved them all until it was time to let them go. Each one is special for sure and will always have a special place in our hearts.

Oh, so sorry! 19 years is a huge chunk of your life. It really is losing a family member. And to lose three in such a short time? Brutal, that's what it is. Take comfort that you gave her the most gentle, loving send-off you ever could have. Her spirit and the memories will stay with you forever.
