We have been traveling around the USA for about 3 months now. We travel with 3 Chihuahuas. No big deal. Our oldest is 13, has a collapsed trachea, enlarged heart, pinched nerve in his shoulder, and bad hips. Because of this, I do not usually put his harness on him. I carry him outside, he does his business and then I carry him back in. If he feels like going for walks with the other 2, we get out his stroller so he can enjoy it more. He is never more than 2 feet from me.
I spend most of my time, explaining to people why he is not in his harness. I have been reported by so many but, I always explain to the camp personnel as soon as we arrive so that they know why he is not going by the rules.
I found it funny that the last person that "reported" me is someone I have watched on several occasions NOT picking up after their large dog. Sorry, to go on but we are just trying to make our little angel comfortable and happy during what may be his last trip.

So sorry for you loss...Rickey has been pampered and spoiled so much by you and he knows you loved him as he passed. You are fantastic parents for loving helping him through his handicap.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know you will spend years thinking of the wonderful memories you have with him. May these memories gradually ease the pain of loss.

I am so sorry for your loss of sweet little Ricky...we never have enough time with them. He knew he was loved and what a better way to go then in the comfort of the arms of his best friend..

Sorry for your loss. Even though you know this is going to happen and there are good reasons to make that final decision, it still hurts. You gave him many months of time both he and you enjoyed.

Sorry for your loss. You were good to that little angel. I like the idea of Shirley Temple playing with Ricky.

Just as an update. We lost our Ricky 2 days ago. He finally got to the point where no amount of medical help could save him and we let him be humanely put to rest. Up until the day before this, he was wagging his tail and still running after the neighbor's beagle and our cat. There is a lot of pain in our home right now and it has affected not only us, our veterinarian, but many of our friends. He would have been 14 next week. At least I got to hold him through the whole procedure and hopefully he knew that I was there. Rest in peace dear devoted friend, you will never be forgotten and I couldn't have loved you more.

I must admit I don't get it why would anyone report someone just because their dog is outside without a leash. IF they're chasing people or wandering around
to other campsites I can see it but just because you take them outside to do their business and back in with no chasing or parking or even sitting there with them. Geez some people need to get a life they just got to have something to complain about!

Ricky has a soft harness but he panics sometimes when I put it on him even though it isn't pushing on his neck. Then he starts hacking and won't stop.....

Why not just buy one of those portable folding dog pens that take 2 minutes to set up? Every large pet store has them. You can order them online. They're lightweight so you can move it around giving him a new area to sniff every day.

No leash, collar or harness involved and you'll be following the rules. 🙂
