Has anyone dealt with Ehrlichiosis ? Zari was treated for 20 days with doxycycline..she did require one IV for dehyration and received a vitamin infusion...she seemed to be responding, her appetite improved a bit but now into the second week post antibiotic completion she is not eating, is dehydrated, no energy..nauseated..she is turning prematurely gray and looks much older than her 5 yrs....we took her back into the vets today and she was started on an IV for dehydration..given an injection for her liver...and two immune system boosters in her IV...she now has to go back every 3 days for an injection.....the vet said her immune system has been compromised by the Ehrlichiosis...any suggestions would be much appreciated...I have never dealt with anything like this before .

Prayers for Zari. It's always worrisome when they are sick. Hope she feels better for Christmas.

Zari finally started eating a bit of boiled chicken late afternoon on Sunday..she hadnt eaten Friday or Saturday so it was becoming quite worrisome...she goes for her next injection today and hopefully with these immune booster injections she will finally get over this horrible condition. Thanks for the suggestions..we appreciate it very much..dealing with a very foreign ( to us ) situation can be daunting to say the least !

Many years ago our dachshund, Gus, had this. He was on doxycycline for quite a while as I recall. The symptoms went away after the first couple of weeks, but the test kept coming back positive so he had to stay on the meds for quite a while.

I have no advice, but just want to pass along my heartfelt concern for Zari and for you two. We know all too well what a huge piece of your heart that little girl holds. Crossing everything that Zari feels better soon..

Oh gosh nabi I'm so sorry to hear about poor little Zari. I don't have any experience with the disease at all but we definitely will keep little Zari in our thoughts and prayers.

Yes, a doberman we adopted from a high-kill shelter as a puppy. She got this disease from a tick and was very ill before it became apparent. We rushed her to the ER that night and they put her on fluids and strong antibiotics. She was very anemic but recovered quickly with an iron supplement. To stimulate her appetite we mixed barely cooked liver and kidneys in her canned/kibble food. This was some years ago. She lived to be 14 or 15 and had to be PTS due to tumors developing all over her body. She waits for us at Rainbow Bridge.

I am going to try this..txs

So sorry to hear of this. Our 80 lb black lab was diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis 3 or 4 years ago, but the antibiotics took care of it without further issue. It is a nasty bug, for those unfamiliar with it, carried by ticks, one of about 15 diseases now known to result from tick bites.

I am so glad your dog recovered....did he/she require IV's and then injections to boost the immune system ? Zari hasnt eaten now for 2 days and being a little girl its rather worrisome.
