Looks like the pellet grills/smokers are the big rage now. I posted about the new Davey Crockett WiFi pellet stove in the cooks section.

Best of all it's somewhat portable & uses 12VDC for the electric supply!

On roasts with my Trager,I used alder and mesquite mostly. One thing you'll find with a pellet bbq is that when it's cold you'll need to have the thermal blanket and you do lose at lot of heat when you open it up to check your cooking and it takes time to get the heat back up. That's why you usually start it on high and then turn it down after you put your food on.

100w start up... 10w running after ignition... The fan control is awesome. Cycles on and off, stokes fire. Precise auger control. Temp didn't vary more than 2-3 degrees... Even at 400deg

I wonder what type of wood for wood pellets would go well with a Tri Tip Roast? Red Oak?

I'm gonna need more solar panels and batteries for that. We need to know the amp draw of the motor and ignitor on 12V. Does it give a UL listing and have a plate stamped with the numbers?

Popo, you are killing us with this, Ventura is not that far for a BBQ, :C

12V stuff

The Adapter puts out 12.7 Volts steady... even at start up... no dip

The App Rocks.. Full control via wifi... 50ft and counting so far...

AGHHHH! I'm caught down here with mere Dorado, and halibut, mesquite smoked. You are in an excellent place to try dungeness crab smoked with good old manzanita.

This thread is driving me freakin' nuts! (stomach growling)

pellet stoves first came out they were to use corn, something farmers had a lot of.
I wonder if the pellet grills and stoves can still use corn.

Trager, the only way to BBQ. We have several BBQ places that use Tragers for their cooking and they actually put out a superior product to the one real pit bbq here.

Few things are as rewarding as apple smoked bacon and mesquite smoked elk. Smoked salmon (actually LOX) is a classic. Yummy!

Spring run Ocean caught King salmon, properly brined and smoked over Alderwood chips. With a dash of Sage honey on the salmon to add just a little sweetness. Heaven!

The Big Chief smoker takes 8 hours at 120V.
