Have a 2011 Duramax. Have had a sensor problem. Dealer says the def from Walmart is giving some problems. Any thoughts.

The only thing I have seen about good v. bad kind to use is to use API certified DEF. Frankly, I haven't seen a brand that's not, but I imagine it's out there; I just haven't seen it. I haven't seen any that was expired either. Again, I'm sure it's out there. Things break and dealers always seem to want to blame someone else, even though they always get paid by someone to fix it.

Same goes with oil. Always make sure the jug hasn't been opened.

I have used the Walmart brand in the blue jug since I got the new truck in 2016. No problems so far. ๐Ÿ™‚

He's full of it. The sensors have been problematic (your dealer knows this) and he needs to replace yours.
BTW, he would have said the same thing no matter where you got the DEF. Did you notice he asked you where you got it rather than just tell you Walmart fluid is junk?

Hogwash, DEF is 35% Urea solution. It's the same no matter where you get it.

It has only 2 ingredients. Dealer is full of bull. I've used WalMart brand for over 60,000 miles. Half the price of what the dealer sells. Probably made by the same people.

I spray it on my hay fields as a foliar innoculant. Makes good fertilizer. Cat pee in a jug. 32% urea and di-ionized water.

Urea is processed 'poop'.

Far as old or not old, I'd just check the end date on the jug.

Have used Super Tech DEF from walmart for the last three years 38K miles with no problems. I fill it up when I'm going to pull the 5er more than 3000 miles. Other than that I add a gallon at a time when it gets low keeping it as fresh as I can.

I agree that DEF is universal. But I have run into DEF which has long passed its expiration date. And the clerk had no idea that there is an expiration date.
so I would advise that it is ok to buy DEF from Walmart as long as the expiration date has not come and gone.

Its the universal answer from the dlr. I had a 2011 GMC and the tank had to be replaced at 600 mi and again at around 75k mi. As well as a sensor a couple of times. It has nothing to do with the def you are using.

Have been buying Walmart Peak Blue DEF since I bought the 2012 F350 new. Never a Problem. Same brand that is sold at local auto parts stores.
