Furnace Fire hazard

I want to make everyone aware of a potential fire hazard I encountered while I was trying to figured out why my furnace (AFMD35121_ _A) made by ATWOOD was smoking, almost killed my family and burned my RV to the ground. After taking the furnace out to find out why it was smoking I found a fault, the sheet metal used to protect the floor(plywood and linoleum)under the furnace is not protecting all the hot surfaces in contact with the floor causing the linoleum to dry up with time and subsequently cause a fire. If you are interested I have pictures and video that I can send. Please get the word out we could safe lives.

Yes the pipe cause that burn, after I took the furnace out I was able to see that the pipe was to close to the floor and the only way it could have caused the burn.
scary to know that it might be other furnaces out there that might have the same problem

you better check the high limit switch in that furnace. it looks like it is running to hot if it is doing that. no way should it get hot enough to do that. none of the 5 rv furnaces i have owned ever discolored the floor like that. the vinyl flooring should also be glued flat to the floor to dissipate more of the heat into the floor instead of the raw vinyl touching the furnace.

Your vinyl (not linoleum) is definitely discolored. Mine is a different design but I am thinking that if the fan in yours is operating correctly, the heat will not be concentrated in one place.

This pictures is a close up of what happened, the pipe from the furnace was just to close to the linoleum and of course with time the flooring got dry from all the heat to the point of ignition.



The picture shows the pipe in question you can see that the pipe is just to close to the edge and the furnace should have been place with the spacers not directly on the linoleum or plywood.



This picture you can see the unsafe installation of the sheet metal, the linoleum and ultimate the furnace. Who ever did this was just lazy didn't even put enough aluminum tape to cover the edge and instead of putting the sheet metal over the linoleum or at least cutting the linoleum it was just left as is.



This picture is just a little further out of where the furnace goes in, again, according to the installation manual that comes wit the furnace it saids that the installation should be done from an exterior wall, if I'm wrong please illuminate my ignorance so I can learn more.

Iirc my furnace sits on the linoleum. Are you sure you dont have flame issue with the burner and nothing is bypassed such as high limit switch?
