Glued running light lens

I had this ingenious idea to replace the incandescent bulbs with LED. Little did I realize that the housing lens is GLUED to the base ๐Ÿ˜ž

Anyway to break it loose without breaking the lens?

Anybody want a bunch of 194 red and yellow bulbs? LOL

Many name brand entire lamps are hermetically sealed which stops corrosion dead in its tracks.

^^^ What Chris said, especially trying to use Red and Amber LED's in lamps with Red and Amber lenses meant for Clear incandescent bulbs.

I was very glad to replace the triple Bargman RV Stop/Turn/Tail/Backup Incandescent lamps on the rear of our Class C with complete Bargman LED lamps. Yes, I had to wire them instead of plugging conversion kits into the already-troublesome sockets in my old lamps.

Also, in the Coast Guard side of my life, we see people wanting to convert their Red and Green running lights to LED using "bulbs." This de-certifies the "USCG Approval" because the light comes out differently on the spectrum.

Back to Amazon:

This is 05 Red and 05 Amber for $37. They're called "2x4 inch" with "standard 3 inch mounting." I measured ours and that's what we have. Five Amber across Front, Five Red across Rear, One Red One Amber each side. The "partsam" outfit has them in Four Packs too so I could replace all 14 in the $50 range which looks like an economical way to upgrade. I wish they were totally sealed, lens not removable, and screws went through pockets in the lenses. That keeps dirt buildup out. And if I were to be hanged I guess I'd request a new rope...

Far as PartsAm goes, I bought a pair of Sealed Oval Stop/Tail/Turn lamps from them. They seemed pretty solid, and both worked coming out of their plain white "made in China" boxes. Probably not enough data to do a "review" but Amazon came through as Amazon does, product working, undamaged, and invoiced correctly. You might be interested in this project. Stop/Turn connected to the toad's brake light and bungeed to the windshield side of the rearview mirror. So I can see when Brake Buddy applied the toad's brakes and more importantly that he fully released them. I'd like to power the Tail/Running side to be able to see the Toad was still there in the dark...

Those have the same big base on them my leds from ebay had... probably would not fit my markers.

I would be real tempted to replace the whole fixture with an LED fixture- that whole base and socket arrangement is prone to problems- I would rather have them hard wired.

How do these "194" LED's on Amazon seem to you?

something else I encountered switching my markers from hotwire to led... first I bought china's best LEDs from ebay, bag of like 20 194 type bulbs for $5. They looked fine in the picture, but in real life they were much longer than a real 194 bulb, and the fixtures would not close

so I went to superbrightleds.com and purchased expensive 194 type leds, which were confirmed to match the size of the hotwire bulb, and presto they fit like they were supposed to.

The marker lights on the rear of my motorhome are indeed sealed units. They twist off of a separate base, similar to unscrewing a jar lid, but they are sealed. The #194 bulb is bedded in a glob of silicone and the entire housing is glued shut. They are essentially disposable fixtures.

Daughter's Terry Hybrid trailer has the from-behind's. I went to get lenses and found I had to get complete lamps. Nice thing, I think the sockets for the 194's are a little better. Bad thing, have to use sealant to replace the bulb.

Betcha you can pull the lamps off and use your LED 194's. Just have a tube of Dicor non-leveling sealant handy. Friends Don't Let Friends use Silicone.

Just pray the OEM didn't rivet the lamps to the coach! Seen that too, but at least the lenses came off to change bulbs. Those were the old "57" bulbs and the contacts were terrible. Lenses also started coming loose. New lenses wouldn't fix it, since the plastic bases had shrunken. Ended up drilling lens and using a small stainless screw into the base.

the marker light fixtures on my kz are glued to the body, but the lenses are able to be snapped out.

like Chris said, if your lenses are glued on, maybe your entire fixture is removable... or maybe somebody at the rv factory was having a bad day and glued everything

you could try a hair dryer on high, it might soften the glue enough that you can pry the lens loose?

A lot of those you remove the fixture, and the bulb and holder twist out of the back.
