need to know which model # for 1997 (2) step, kwiki step

something at the output shaft to the swing arm broke yesterday
swing arm is intact but bushing etc are missing

want to replace motor-gearbox combo

Monday when things outside are more dried out, i will crawl under and take pictures and 'maybe' remove the motor assembly

would rather not have to splice power wires and make new motor connections, like i had too do, when i replaced the motor in the safari
a few years ago (4)?
I can explain it to you.

I'm a little late in responding but FYI, in 1999 Kwikee changed from a automotive windolift motor to the AM motor and a whole new gear box. Your controller should work fine but one ending in 10000 ithe most current.

Someone on here swears that the manufacturer sells seconds to LCI, not so. The motors are better than the ones that were used from 1995 to 1999.

You're on the right track and you may or may not have to change out the door switch.

old and new side by side

Click For Full-Size Image.

you can see the differences in the motor mounting screw positions and the gearbox design

this why, you have to replace both together, even if one of the old parts is good

at 22yrs age, best to replace both for $200 than just one piece at $80
now everything is new except the controller

the only problem is you don't get a power plug for the motor, but (2) butt splices trimmed and flatten on one end, then sealed with gasket or rubber sealer
makes a water/weather tight connection

I took the old gear box and motor out yesterday, going to put the new one in sometime today, " I hope"
Right now I'm getting ready to go over to the lock Smith, see what he can do with the tumblers and keys, in my door lock
Everything works from the inside, but the deadbolt won't lock with the key, and the door latch lock gets stuck and doesn't want to unlock with the key, took ten minutes to get in last night

Have pictures of the and and old gearbox and motor assembly's to post
I can explain it to you.

I didn't look at the years. I'll have to remove those parts from my 95 Bounder, even though they work. Don't want the wrong year stuff on my coach. GRIN............

I ordered the new gearbox and new motor, I know from doing the Safari, the mounts for the old motor and new Motor did not match, new gear box, new motor
Linkage not available for that model
At last I did not find it

Ball wobbles on the shaft, temporary repair, keep popping the clip off
Even after taking the time to make a good grove on the ball to hold the clip
Parts expected Tuesday
Have to wait a few days for dry weather, to install
I can explain it to you.

Being you have 1997, if you don't have the updated electronic control box, (as Doug mentioned) you may have issues getting the new motor/gearbox to work properly with the old electronic control box and door switch.

Per the manufacturers recommendations:

I replaced my series 32 gearbox/control box (1999 model Series 32) and I bought the entire OEM update kit including the motor/gearbox, control box, fasteners, door switch, and wiring harness. Works like a charm, first time.

the bushing ? and snap ring that hold the 'curved' arm to the gear crank
are gone

the curved arm was/is attached to step pivot point, but not to the 'ball' on gearbox

i ordered the replacement gearbox and the motor, from amazon
lippert parts, not copied parts

same parts i put on the Safari feb 2015
I can explain it to you.

i did not get under there today
but i did get a quick look at things in the daylight
the curved arm has come off the 'ball' at the end of the 'crank'
the crank turns with the motor, but is not connected to the curved arm

I think i can do a 'Yankee' temp repair, to hold the (2) pieces together, and then order a new motor & gear box

tomorrow i'll get some pictures, while attempting my temp repair

if i can get a 'E' clip, or a snap ring clamped around the bottom of 'Ball' and grease everything real good, it might hold for a few days
I can explain it to you.

Should be a model #32.......

The update change out kit is a pain to test the motor. The motor has the leads plugged into the motor and if the steps are in, you have to cut the wires to test the motor. With the old system, there is a splice in the motor leads that you can get to to test the motor.

The bushing are built into the linkage. Maybe all you need is the linkage?

You would be best to buy the updated Change out kit. It comes with the updated motor/transmission and the control box and new door magnets. You just have to replace and connect the 4 main wires to the step. Doug

Big difference is the linkage. Some are straight and others curved.
If you change control box, you need to change magnetic switch.
