Locked out of RV

This concerns the door latch below the deadbolt. I have the key. I have no problem locking and unlocking the latch, but I can't open the door with the outer latch. I pull on the latch and it won't open the door. The door isn't jammed, it acts like the latch is still locked.

So, I am locked out of my RV. All the windows and other ways to get in are closed and locked. There are no compartments or other ways to get in. I don't mind ruining the latch to get in, it needs to be replaced anyway. I have drills and other tools. I don't want to break a window.

What can I do?

Try prying the latch handle up and then try opening.

I adjusted the door jam plate so the latch doesn't hit as hard when the door is closed, worked for me after replacing the lock once

The latch/lock on our mh broke while it was still under warranty, got it replaced. Then the replacement broke. I went to a local small RV parts place and got a new one but different make. No more problems.

I got locked out of mine once and what worked was that I hit the dang lock hard once or twice with a rubber mallet and at that point the lock decided to work fine again - lol

Hi,

I'm on my second lock. I try to shut the door gently and have the latch open as I do so.

It is the choice of metal they used--it is extremely annoying.

Fortunately I'm in a class C, so I do have alternate ways to enter.

I recall this being a problem on on brand of locks, and there was a recall on the locks. Just before the recall, I had mine fail, luckily it was on a cargo trailer with a drop down rear door.

Mine does that sometimes. when it does, it is because the door is not completely shut. I have to push it shut, and the latch clicks, and then I can open it.
Just a thought. Something to try.

You can also drill out the cylinder yourself and save time and money. Then you'll need to replace the lockset.

We ended up breaking the window and cutting the screen. Both easy enough to replace. We now leave a window that we can climb through to get in.

The cam in the lockset gets worn out. They are made of pot-metal. If you can pry the jamb just enough (1/8") you might get it open and save yourself time and aggravation.
