surge protectors

Looking for recommendations on surge protectors, not hard wired. Reviews on Camping World protectors are low. Thanks!!

Oh shucks my 13 year old Oster, microwave decided to throw it's own lightning storm yesterday. Magnetrons and sea air don't play nice. Huge arc light through the view port.

Still didn't blow the MOVs and TVS meaning the board is still good. Time to play Grim Reaper and harvest organs.

Spike suppressors do pay off.

What is the correct definition of a "qualified RV dealer"? Sounds like Giant Shrimp to me...

A licensed electrician would be a better choice, would it not? Would that violate the manufacturer's warranty? If they say "No! No licensed electricians! Only a slob with a 6th grade education who works flat rate at an RV dealer!

I would run like hell.

Limited lifetime warranty which the company since it's sale last spring is enforcing much more strictly than used to be the case. Those also recommending the hard wire version are conveniently neglecting to mention that Progressive spells out quite clearly in it's limited lifetime warranty that the unit must be installed by a "qualified" RV dealer, otherwise the warranty is void.

To the OP - you want to understand what you're buying and why, not just buy something because forum pundits tell you what's best without explaining why. :R Do yourself a favour and read this recent discussion and this one on the subject of Progressive Industries EMS units, damage, and warranty issues. Enlightening. 😉

The hard wired one Like This has a remote display so you can always see what is going on.

Field serviceable unlike the plug in ones. Also easy to install,watch video in ad.

X2 on hard-wired. I also have the PI 50-amp and last year it found a problem with my S&B shore power. I guess it can happen anywhere.

Another consideration - Hard-wired units are always safely out of the rain. I'm curious too why you prefer the portable.
