...Is the water heater drain plug? Are they all the same?

There are all manner of packs of these floating around. Like THIS ONE.

Are those angled wrenches of any use? I'm thinking mine is going to need a socket extension to get to it.

I like to use a 6 pointed socket. Too easy to round the corners off the Attwood nylon plug when using 12 points.

Yeah, I used a Sharpie and wrote "1-1/16" on it so I know which socket to grab when I want to remove on my Suburban anode/drain plug.

X 2. one socket is best.

skinny, wrenches will slip, and there seems to something in the way.

Clarification:

Suburban Anode Rod Hex head requires 1 1/16" socket
Drain hole is 3/4" NPT

Atwood can be 2 different sizes depending on Vendor
A 15/16" socket OR a 7/8" socket
NYLON drain plug...both are 1/2" NPT
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Same here, all were Suburban heaters.

Suburban uses a 3/4" NPT anode that uses the 1-1/16" socket. Others use a 1/2" NPT plastic drain plug with the smaller hex.

I might add that the tool maker mentioned in the original post has no clue, photos, descriptions and measurements are incorrect.

The Threads are usually 1/2 inch IPT. Atwood normally uses a plastic plug I suggest a six point socket (not a 12) on this plug. Suburan normally uses a metal plug with an anode rod. this one can take any kind of wrench.

page 2: Keep a short length (like 6 to 10 inches) of plastic irrigation pipe, also 1/2 inch thread With water heater cold and pump /city water off. pull plug, thread in pipe open TPR valve to drain (Stand back) pipe takes water out past side of RV. Need not be all that tight. Finger tight will do.

The wrench that comes with those plugs has two different sizes. I would think that implies there are two different size plugs out there. At least on the outside. The inside diameter of the drain may be the same on all water heaters. I increased the bend angle on that tool and it worked just fine. Channel Lock pliers have worked also.
