I am noticing a few nice 07-08 Yukon xls for sale out there with 6.2 6 speed for good price. Seems like that truck would pull good !? Prices seem decent at 16,000 - 21,000

We had 2008 Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2/6speed, 3.42 and it had more than enough power to tow our ~7000lb trailer. The problem we had was the P metric tires gave a nice ride, but felt unstable at times towing..

I'm with APT -- I wouldn't be a big fan of the AWD. Twice as many moving parts, so more maintenance, more to go wrong, and more fuel used. We have a few friends w/ full size AWD GM suv's (Denalis and Escalades) w/ the 6.0, and they seem to use quite a bit more fuel than our 5.3 Subs have. I don't know if it is the engine or the AWD, but something is amiss. The 6.2 seems like a great engine, though.

I had a different experience. When driving the 6.2 vehicle, it achieved higher MPG for my driving. I believe this was because the 6.2 went into V4 mode more often. However, I do know that the 2013 Suburban with the 5.3 had better MPG then the 2012 and earlier.

I test drove a SWB Denali when shopping 3 years ago. I loved the power and payload was surprisingly over 1500 pounds. I suspect the XL is down by 200 pounds though. So make sure it has enough for your needs. That's how we ended up in a 3/4 ton.

I'm not convinced the AWD system is durable long term. But I have not heard much wrong with the 6.2L and GM puts more in SUVs than pickups since 2007. There are many with 150k+ miles.

I used a 2008 to pull my previous trailer. There was plenty of power. I did not have the family in the vehicle due to payload (and the fact that most of the trips are within 50 miles so I go setup alone).

I have been watching these vehicles, as I miss not having a family vehicle that seats 7 or 8. I have only seen the price below $20k for those with over 200k miles. I have also included the Escalade ESV. They do not appear much more expensive then the GMC.

THat is the half ton is it not? It will probably pull good enough, the issue if My suspicion is correct, payload will be your issue with a family and hitch wt added in.

Agree. Get a 3/4 ton in that same model year range and you get the 6.0 and the 6 speed, no AFM, and a better payload. Payload of my 2500 is 2,088 lbs. But even with that payload, I'm maxed out with my family of 5 (3 teenagers) that weighs ~830 lbs, and a trailer that weighs ~6,300 lbs.

My family of 6 was close to 1200-1300 lbs be the time you add us 6, along with sheet they brought along etc......probably more like 2000lbs if you include the bikes in the pickup bed, canoe, etc.....

Check the payload as that will be your limiting factor. Ours is the P/U with the 6.2 6spd, 3.73 rear & NHT tow package, with a tow rating of approx. 11K and we routinely tow 10K. Our load limit is just under 2K. It does an awesome job of towing and I let the transmission and engine do all the work by using T/H mode anytime the trailer is hooked up. If the payload is there for you, then you will be happy with the results.
