100,000 mile report

Ok, my 06 LBZ truck just turned 100,000 miles and I want to make a report of the good, the bad, and the ugly. About 25% of those miles were towing.

It always makes me chuckle when people say "I have 20,000 miles on my truck and it's been a great truck."
Well hell, I hope so! It's a brand new truck!

Anyway, here we go.

Engine:
10 oil changes
6 fuel filter changes
2 new glow plugs
2 Air filters
1 set batteries (2)
That's it for the engine.

Other things:

2 sets of tires (factory + 2 sets I put on.)
4 shocks at 50K
4 steering boxes (Don't ask; it did not need any):M
1 set of engine oil cooler hoses.
4 burnt out lights in the steering wheel buttons
1 Steering column bearing
1 intermediate steering shaft

That's pretty much it. Pretty good for 100,000 miles. As far as I'm concerned it won't be a good truck until I get 200,000 with no drive train repairs. Then and only then I will say it is a good truck. 🙂

I really like towing with this truck but don't like driving it solo. All in all, I like my truck. 🙂

The good news is a pump from AC is only 150 bucks plus my labor putting it on. Not that big of a deal.

If you are changing the pump make sure to also flush the fluid, you will be amazed at how ugly the old stuff has gotten and you may find that fresh fluid will greatly improve your current steering. See this link and the PDF in it for a method a bunch of us have used. I did my LBZ two years ago and it made a big difference with power steering feel and noise.

I agree 100%! GM has been putting bogus hoses on their trucks for over 25 years that I know of. At least it wasn't a head gasket or HPFP! :B

WNYBob: Without writing a book. The steering got hard and weird around 50K (warrantee.) Took it to a dealer and they said it was a box. They put box #1 on. Didn't fix it. I took it back about 6 months later and said fix it. They put box #2 on. Didn't fix it. I told them it was the pump. Box #3 went on. They put the wrong box on. It was clocked about 120 degrees out. I needed my truck so they let my truck go out the door clocked wrong. I told them to stop putting good boxes on my truck and replace the pump. They said "I" didn't know what I was talking about. Grrrrr..........box #4 goes on to fix the clocking issue. Box #4 is still on there to this day. Steering is still not right. I will put a new pump on when I get some time. This will fix the problem for good. 🙂

If the steering isn't right you should check the steering box.

7. Installed 7" touch screen stereo with new speakers and sub with two amps.
8. Washed twice a week and waxed and polished twice a year.:B
9. Installed Bully Dog programmer and MBRP exhaust at around 4 years old.

All fluids are original except oil, rear diff and windshield washer.

No transmission service?

No sir, still factory fluid. I have never touch or had anyone touch the transmission. No band adjustments, nothing. The funny thing is that I have been running the Bully Dog on extreme from day one I put it on the truck. Towing my doubles or not it has been on that setting except when it automatically detunes itself when the H20 gets to the temp I have it set for (220*).

I did forget number 10 though. I have put front rear brake pads on it with new rotors. It didn't need them at the time but when I started towing doubles I put severe duty rotors and brakes all the way around it.

The service tech thought something wasn't right with the steering on my 07 4500 when I took it in for the 500 mile service. Supposedly the dealer could not determine what was wrong. A new box was installed still the same problem. So they had an expert from Bosch look at it; still couldn't determine what was wrong. It sounds like the fluid is low (it's not) but the steering works great. 15,000 miles and still the same.

And with just a mild tune, that LBZ will run with or bitsch slap every new truck out there.

Hey noticed in your maintenance you don't show any trans filters. A dump n fill with Transynd and keeping up on filter changes is a good move with the Alli.

I like this thread!

2008 Ram 2500 CTD 4x4

81 000 miles (131 000 km)

Oil changes with synthetic twice a year
Axle and transfer case fluid changed every two years
two sets of tires ( I live on a gravel road, it eats them)
Fuel filter changed each year
Transmission serviced once
Bilstein 4600
new front bearings
Mag-hytec transmission pan and rear diff cover
1 pair of new batteries
1 DPF and EGR cleaning done at the dealership
1 brake job

That's all I can think of, it's been good to me.

Nice report OP. I loved every mile of my 06 LBZ. I think I put about 125K on it and had nothing huge but a list nonetheless - lots of front end parts, tranny cooler hoses, part of the xfer case.

2004 excursion V10 with 189,??? miles about half towing

Oil and filter about every 8 or 10 thousand
2 air filter,I blow it out when I change the oil
Transmission filter at 110,000
Spark plugs at 120,000
Alternator at about 150,000
Two COP coils around 180,000
Brakes twice on rear three times on front
One spindle bearing and front rotors twice
Rear rotors and parking brake shoes once
Three sets of tires
Replaced battery
Shocks on the front only
One tail light bulb
One tail pipe

I think it has been good to me, but the brakes didn't like the 8500 lb TT (or maybe my driving)
