2016 Colorado Diesel...Finally a price!!!!

Yesterday the local Chevy dealer here in Iowa where I am working called me. He had finally been able to get an actual price on a diesel equipped Colorado. He priced out exactly what I wanted on the truck...Crew Cab SB 4x4 with only the diesel package and heated seats. It is interesting though that the block heater is optional...so I added that $70.00 option as well...

Sticker price was $39,070.00. They will sell it for $37,500.00 plus tax.GM is dropping the ball on the way they force you to order a truck with packages that drive the cost up with options you would not order but must purchase if you want the diesel. These are packages above and beyond what is included in the diesel option.

I did not order the truck. When Deb was out here two weeks ago, we talked about her transportation needs. Her truck is no longer reliable enough for me to feel comfortable with her at home and me working 750 miles away. We decided to look at used SUV's. They are high enough to give her the visibility she wants and she really never uses her pickup as a pickup anymore...so...

We bought a low mileage 2010 Subaru Outback Limited...for less than 30% of the cost of the Colorado. I will drive it between the two jobs I am building (75 miles apart) until mid October. She will fly out here one way and drive it home...

I have been driving the Subaru Outback for the last ten days or so and I am very impressed with the SUV.Excellent fuel mileage and very comfortable...and my DuraMax is not being driven 150 to 200 miles a day as a basic transporter.

Spokane Wa is the #1 sales for new subies, 1 in just under 9 people own a subie! Here in Seattle, we are #2 in nation, with just over 1 in 9 owning one. My son and SO own one, eldest daughter just bought one yesterday.

Would like to talk wife into one instead of the MB ML she has.....

Scoobies are usually an overlooked brand for those that typically buy Honda Accords and Toyota Camries. My wife has been a Subaru fan for a long time every since I told her about the Legacy back in 05'. For what you get for the dollar, they're a solid package. They tend to be a little over engineered as well. Very stout suspension parts for the weight and an excellent crash structure (We've tested that a while in her older legacy). I believe the 2010 was the first year that they came with CVT transmissions? The lineartronic transmission is great reliability wise (assembled in a clean room and truly not meant to be serviced in the field), but I've always hated the dynamics of how CVT's drive while accelerating. Still a good car though :).

I never pay sticker price. it's always invoice or lower. they can do it, they still get paid just not as much. I''m there to buy a truck not pay their annual salary. I bought my son a car at the dodge dealer for $200 under invoice.

My oldest daughter and her husband have driven Subaru Outbacks for a long time. They have never sold or traded one with less than 210,000 miles. I called her husband for advice and information. He told me what to look for in the problem arena.

I am working in North Iowa now.In the last 4 months I have worked in Waseca,Mn, Clear Lake,Ia and Ft.Dodge,Ia. When I started looking at Outbacks in Iowa, I only found a few. I switched to Hennepin County, Mn and there were pages of used Subaru Outbacks. I bought this one in Farmington, Mn.

Good to hear from you...

I was not surprised at all at the sticker price. We had spec'ed out a gas Colorado using the options made mandatory by ordering a diesel. When we were done with that exercise, I was over $39,000 when adding in the $3700.00 that the diesel option adds to the price.

I was not going to mention the "I think I'll wait until someone else consumer tests this product" scenario. I realize I am not buying another Ford POS that they will not stand behind but the foul taste of being screwed over by Ford while essentially testing their 6.7 diesel makes me a bit leery about testing anyone's new product. This "consumer testing" for the Colorado diesel was on my mind but the first reports from Deb's son at GM were encouraging. He has since changed his opinion a bit. As the miles pile up on their early production test mules, there are some minor issues to work through. He told his mom that we likely made a good decision to buy the Subaru at this time...I was not told what the small issues are but I will be home over Labor Day and will try to find out what are the issues.

I am not out of the market for a diesel Colorado or Canyon...just in a holding pattern for now...

The 2.8, if anything like my CRD, is a decent motor. Issue with the CRD is the size for a family of 4 plus a 4lb dog. 3500 miles in 2 weeks proved that.
