Smooth shifts mean that your are spending some time between gears which is a waste of power to the ground. I don't buy it. We will see. Diesels have much broader power bands.

Chris

I try not to knock myself out quoting, but there is some misinformation here.

My 6 speed Ford does not spend time between shifts. It is instantaneous and smooth.

Try it you will like it.

Instantaneous shifts with a RPM drop are jerky. I towed with a 47RE doing lock to lock shifts (Instantaneous) for years. Smooth shifts are not instantaneous.

Pretty cool if I towed at over 100 MPH. Unfortunately not much benefit at the speeds I tow and drive at. Looks cool though!
There has been a few times that I had to tow into a 40 to 60MPH headwind. Since we were doing 60-65, that scoop would have seen over 100MPH... And just when it needed it to buck that wind.

Don't ask about the MPGs...:E We had to get home.

Don't laugh too hard...all of the OEMs will follow suit if it sells well...

The way too tall pickups/SUVs are the standard now

Laughable were the first 20's and are now OEM

Tall noses of the first RAMs are now the standard for all OEMs

Anyone remember the: "oh my gosh...it has 9 cup holders" to now be standard...

Or how about cars now having the lower air opening drop down to the
lower edge that was once just performance cars...

Does this mean GM is increasing the HP to the DMax for the '17 model?

Yes, but no official numbers have been released yet. '16 will be the last year for the LML Duramax motor. GM has been pretty tight lipped on changes. Rumors also indicate an 8-speed Alllison may be coming.

I see no reason for a 8 speed tranny. It will be spending half it's time shifting gears. After towing 14 years with a 4 speed auto, I find a 6 speed does the job just great.

Maybe with a gasser, not needed with a diesel, or do over cylindered diesels perform more like gassers? I did not thing so. Maybe the rumored 8 speed is for gassers? Chris

And Ford is going to 10 speed. It keeps the engine perfectly in it's power band for HP and fuel economy. The shifting on these new systems are smooth and seamless.

Still wondering why they continue with the square wheel wells over round tires. Never looked right. Front looks decent.
