2019 CHANGES

I was ready to buy a 2018 3500 DRW Longhorn until............ I read that for 2019 there was a change, maybe 2.
The first change is the nav screen is going from the current 8.5" to a large 12" touchscreen, similar to the 2018 Lincoln Navigator.
I also heard but haven't confirmed that finally the mirrors are being changes somehow to be more tow worthy.

Has anyone heard anything about the 2019 3500's?

I want a 3500 Longhorn 4x4 8' bed, factory 30K 5th wheel hitch, Cummins 385hp / 935torque, 4:10 locking rear, Aisin tranny. I'm towing a 2019 41' 16K 5th wheel.

Where the 2020 will change, however, is the interior. Shared with the Ram 1500, the interior and all other Heavy Duty pickups will be a significant improvement, with nicer materials, modern style,

and an available 12-inch vertical touchscreen display.

The Ram should also continue to offer off-roadโ€“oriented design features like tire tread embossing on the seats and aggressive, red-anodized interior trim. We should see the 2020 2500 Power Wagon debut with the rest of the Ram Heavy Duty lineup sometime next year, perhaps at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

I did rather the mirrors on my Ford, a little bigger being more square and didn't vibrate as much.

I read on the internet theyre replacing the entire windshield with one huge touchscreen.

I like it all. Picked up an 18 Kia Soul as a beater car and the tech in even this POS is awesome and the touchscreen interface does more than my 15 GMC 2500 that cost 3 times as much...........but.........

If your planning on keeping the vehicle long term get ready to bend over and grab em, long term as in after the warranty runs out, especially on the electronics. That stuff will eventually sheet the bed and when it does you'll need a fat wallet to repair it, and will have no choice nor be able to do any of it yourself.

Iโ€™m not a big fan of the touchscreens...any of them. Physical buttons are much easier targets to hit. Especially if itโ€™s cold and you are wearing gloves.

And yes, I have had both.

Maybe a sign that the new 5th Gens will be on a carryover 4th gen chassis and share a lot of other parts with 4th gens if theyโ€™re โ€œretrofitting โ€œ new tech and parts into the last of the old style.

I donโ€™t think Iโ€™d want a 12โ€ screen, the 8.5โ€ is great. As for UConnect...garbage! More than half the time it times out trying to lock/unlock/remote start. I did like the option to push a search address to the GPS though. Good luck with the 2019!

The big screen can be split in two so you have like your Nav screen at the bottom or top and your radio controls etc at the bottom. I'm ambivalent, but then again still quite a few years out from another purchase. The big difference I see, not sure if on the 3500's is the etorque feature as ones coming out soon will be "mild hybrid" and they can put the electric portion into torque apparently.

I understand that it will be model year '20. Probably at least a year away. That touch screen looks very intriguing. It would be awesome to have dual displays. You could have your NAV on one half, and your choice on the other half. Perhaps a rear view camera on your trailer...

I like my tech....but a 12" touchscreen? WTF? May as well cut to the chase and go at least 27" or 32". I can see all the commercials now for the pickup touchscreen war lol.

Maybe move the screen and eliminate the steering wheel so you can steer with a virtual wheel on the screen with one finger?

Everything runs through uconnect on the new vehicles. The larger screen just gives you more real estate to have more than just the radio active on the screeen. The only thing I don't like is the moving away from redundant hard keys. So if the uconnect goes down so does your ability to use any feature tied to it.
