Oh, and when buying new, things I thought was ridiculous pricing:

1) 2.5kw, propane fired generator - $4.5k
2) 100 watt solar panel & controller - $1.2k
3) second 100 watt solar panel - another $1k.

yea, not going to happen in my book.

I ended up buying new, for several reasons..

one was layout (bathroom size was a deal breaker), another was I did not have the time to repair the old one (and it was not worth taking it somewhere to get it fixed). Last, the size of the tanks on the new one also helped; my wife does not understand how to conserve water very much.

Somebody said "the rest of us have to pay for that", as if those of us who negotiate have done a dis-service to those who don't, or can't.

I dis-agree on one point with that statement, that anybody "has" to buy an RV, but the rest of the idea seems accurate. And it got me thinking. They are right; it's all about economics. I consider myself frugal, others would call me cheap - this is just semantics.

But I for one, appreciate those who are willing to spend and create economy. Economy is important to all of us. So thanks!

My wallet starts to get hot and smoking just thinking about buying new for that much. I like what we have now but in a couple more years we may take it in the shorts for a Northernlite 10.2 or larger if they start making one. No slides needed.

I think that's actually kind of a "low price" if you want quality of build and materials (sarcasm BTW). Anybody will tell you - you get what you pay for. Trim that falls off, stereos that fail, vinyl flooring that scuffs from the slide pads, high r-value insulation that was "stuffed" instead of "placed", cheap carpet pad and carpet that must be replaced too soon (see latest Trailer Life article on RV renovations), cold air drafts in the bedroom at the headboard - these are just some of the things such a "cheap" price will net you. (Nothing against Lance here, it's the industry).

When you started listing all these quality issues, I figured you were talking about new homes. ๐Ÿ™‚ Seriously though, everything is expensive these days - housing being the most ridiculous in many parts of the country. Have you gone to a ball game lately? Talk about waaay over-priced! Furthermore, even some fast food joints are getting $7 for a greasy burger. To top it off, look what some people spend on the pricier cars out there that do nothing but get them to and from work and the grocery store. Let's see them take a shower or cook dinner in their expensive car.

We bought both our campers brand new and have no problem spending the money for something that gives us the freedom to go see and do the things we like to do in comfort. Sure beats throwing the money down the toilet on new living room furniture.

Us poor folks in Canada have to pay the premium on U.S. dollars, just ordered a 10.0 camplite tc, $24000, convert that to U.S. works out to $30,240 well what are you going to do, you can leave your money to your kids or do what I'm doing, spending their inheritance who knows how long you have on this planet, worked all my life so I could retire so why not spend some.

I've heard too many negative stories about quality issues with these campers,so wouldn't even consider one..
plus it's way too square aerodynamically,,I want round camper to get decent mpg..
That said,,
I always buy new and pay cash,so as not to have any worries..still that TC is way too overpriced

Who ever pays list price? We bought a new 015 1050S fully loaded for about 32k last May in Yakima Wa from Hills Bros. I forget what the list was but I think it was about 25% off list. We love this new Lance! almost worth what we paid, I don't think so, but oh well!

If I had the cash I would buy new. Right now I am saving up to buy a new truck, Diesel CC Long Bed Dually 4x4. When we bought our TC in 2010 we were looking at new when a nicely outfitted 2 year old Lance 1055 in immaculate condition popped up for sale locally for 20k. I love that Camper, nice layout, fits the KISS principle. It should serve us well for many more years.

Of coarse TCs became very popular in CA in the 60s because we weren't limited to 55 mph like towing a TT. Put a rack on the rear and take your motor bike along with you.

Went by and looked at that Lance 995. Very nice camper. It had some options that I did not want, so the list price would come down quite a bit. Just the generator, solar and fancy rear bumper are about $7k.
