5w30 Castrol oil loss

A message came up on the dash about low oil level. I checked and was 4 quarts low. I do not have a leak I looked all over. The truck has 139,000 miles on it and regular oil changes have been done. I use Castrol 5w30 as recommended. Where could the oil be going evaporation. This has not been happening between every oil change.

a coworker of mine had a newer GM/chev truck (can't quite remember which) with the cylinder de-activation system and it was going through 1 quart a week. It was under warranty but told that was normal by the dealership. Maybe there is a way to have that deactivation system turned off?

I don't see the year of your truck, but if it's post 2007 it will have the cylinder deactivation and there is some issue with that system that starts to use excessive oil after a number of miles. Google "active fuel management oil consumption".

I think it's the same issue. Not looking forward to rings and piston cleaning.
Thanks

Sorry for the lack of info. 07 silverado LTZ , 5.3 engine 4speed. 139000 miles driven daily short trips . Oil loss is not consistent. It has happened in the past but has been fine at other times. Oil has been changed at 4200-4800 miles and have used Castrol 5w30 exclusively since 10,000 miles. It's not raced or excessive towing.

I checked the oil often on a 454 because it used a quart about every 1,000 miles. No sign of where it went. GM said it was normal. Good luck.

Without more info we can't do much for you. I once had a 1980 Chevy pick up that had a bad modulator valve that allowed oil cross contamination between the engine and transmission (sucking trans oil into the motor) so strange things can occur sometimes. If it is not straight up burning that much oil which should be noticeable it is going somewhere within other systems on the vehicle. You might start by checking fluid levels elsewhere on the vehicle.

how about you ask for help and only offer a tiny bit of information so people can then play a guessing game full of speculation.

there are a ton of reasons why it could be going through oil.

I'm not familiar with your engine, but does it have a PVC valve? If it does check and see if it's been sucking oil into your intake.

Hello!
Is there any oil build up inside the tail pipe(s)? If vehicle has two pipes look at both. If the is oil build up in side the pipes then there's an internal oil leak somewhere. You may want to check the Cat's for an oil smell. To much oil and the cat's will plug up.

4 quarts low on a 1500 Chevy? That thing only holds 5 quarts and the low oil level light should come on at about 1.5 quarts less than max. Something not right with description.

At that mileage towing you are likely going to use some oil. I have an 05 Chevy 1/2 ton with 160k miles that will use about a quart between oil changes if most of the mileage is towing. Doesn't use a drop if not towing, started using oil towing around 130k.

Have you checked your coolant bottle to make sure it hasn't found its way there?

Not a good sign, how many miles on the change? Does it consume oil normally? If so at what rate.
If the consumption is inconsistent, have you been towing more on this current change, idling more.
What about internal leaks, rings, valve seals, should produce blue smoke but not always.
