AF 1150, couple of questions

We have a Lance but are looking at the AF 1150.
Our biggest concern is the lack of space in the shower. We are looking at the dry bath,as I am not interested in having a wet bath. Been there, done that. We are normal sized people and it feels very cramped to us. Anyone who has that floorplan, have you found it to be an issue?
I know we could probably add an extend a shower rod and that might help.

Also, is it true that AF says their units should not be used unless they are on a truck?

Thanks,

Sue

I am 6'2", 230 lbs, and I have no problem with the shower in my AF 1150 dry bath. It is tight, but it's not like I spend a lot of time in there. Get in, get done, get out. I would rather have the tight shower of the dry bath than deal with the wet bath mess. The leg room on the toilet is more of an issue, but it's acceptable.

I know the 811 basement was redesigned for the slideout tray for MY 2012. Perhaps others did not have as many problems with support.

It is a very tight fit. It is probably the biggest drawback of this floor plan. I know that the black and grey tanks in older models were not mounted very well as I have seen it and repaired mine with a better support system in a 2006. The water tank is in the front of the unit and is accessible from inside at the first step up to the cab over and is mounted better. Not sure what is any different in newer ones. I camped in mine off the truck many times but if you do, my suggestion would be to keep your fluids to a minimum and keep the jacks at their lowest. If you can support it from below I would.

Idk if it's reccomended for ours or the 05 model we had, but use both regularly off the truck, no support. Sometimes all the tanks are full when we pack extra water with. No issues so far.

Life's a compromise.. I'd like more room, but it wouldn't matter how big the shower was, I'd still like more room.

Our's is a dry. I do ok, don't mind taking showers. 6'1" and still fit.

Per the topic on camping off truck. We remove ours about 90% of the time in the non-snow weather. Yes, (ours is an '11) it must be supported. And, yes, it's written. If your not sure on the year you're looking at, just call them.

I had an 1140 and then an 1150. I have an Eagle Cap now. That was my biggest complaint with the AF's was the size of the bathroom.
FWIW, having gone from 2 AF's to another brand, my thoughts--

AF Pro's
Cold weather insulation
Build quality
Great service from my dealer, Apache RV

AF Cons
Difficult to work on - Lack of access to basement for service or upgrading, like running wires.
Bathroom
Under bed-rail floor size limitation instead of over-rail. But also a plus - not as top-heavy.
No floorplan available that offers a reclining sofa or someplace comfy to sit.

And on the last point - I always tell people my Eagle Cap is the most expensive sofa I've ever bought.

We recently sold our 1150 dry bath. Yes the shower is tight and the step up in the middle of the pan makes it worse. The toilet area is also very tight clearances on each side of the toilet.

I know my 811 was redesigned for 2012 and that was one of the factory reps talking points. Maybe asking on the Northwood user site you can get more detail or shower ideas.

Prior to 2012, the manual said not to take it off the truck with full tanks without supporting the bottom. Later models can be used with tanks filled or empty while unloaded.

Is the model you want with a wet bath or dry? The wet bath gives you a bigger shower.

Sorry, dry bath.
I understand I would have more room with a wet bath, but after many years of wet baths in our boat, I am over it.
I updated OP with that info, thanks.

Ours is a 2011. No mention of it in the manual.

Re: use off the truck. I do not find that in my ownerโ€™s manual. We use our 1140 off the truck quite often. We have not had any problems.
