Anyone towing with an 2011+ ecoboost?

After searching the specs, I have realized the f150 have more payload capacity with the new ecoboost then the 5.0 engines. I was wondering for those that tow with it how the experience been? Any issues?

I don't think you will see an Ecoboost in a 250. The motor is simply not sturdy enough. It is all aluminum.

You would think but the GVWR isn't equal- GVWR on a 5.0 without the hd payload package is 7350 and the ecoboost without hd payload package is 7650. Automatically the payload on the ecoboosts are higher. 300-400lbs difference.

I'm looking at a 2011 FX4 GVWR 7650, payload 1600lbs. It has the max tow package and 3.73 gears.

You have to be careful that you are getting the correct payload package when you plan on towing a 8,000 pound + travel trailer. You need the maximum GVWR and max tow package that also usually comes with a 3.73:1 rear axle ratio.

It is possible to get a lower GVWR and lower cargo rating, so that particular truck will not be able to handle 600 pounds of passengers as well as 1,000 pounds of trailer hitch weight in addition to towing a 8,000 - 10,500 pound trailer.

Ford puts huge oil cooler and engine air aftercooler on the larger capacity trucks.

My sister is very happy with her Ecoboost too. They tow a toyhauler travel trailer. She used to have a Expedition with a 5.4L and then they got a GMC 1/2 ton crewcab, but it really overheated on the hills around Phoenix AZ. So they bought the F-150 Ecoboost. I can't wait for the F-250's to come out with a Ecoboost. I just keep waiting.

5600 kms towing last season, only hick-up was the million dollar highway, tranny hit 230s at low speed, no error codes... avg 12mpg

I think this motor is awesome for moderate towing. I still question how long that small motor will last towing 10 or 11 thousand pounds around all of the time.

I have ran a few searches on the ecoboost, some say its great, others have problems and I know here was an investigation. Although a lot of investigations have happened in recent years.

I am only towing about 4000lbs TT, can't hardly tell it is there except gas mileage LOL. Was using a 2004 F150 4.6l before and it did ok. The Ecoboost has way more power off the line and otherwise. Have not towed in any big hills yet but I think it will do fine there also.

I drove the 5.0 and Ecoboost and that made up my mind. Both would do the job for me but ECo has much better low end power, if that is the correct terminology.

I just bought one 2014 f150 3.5 eco max tow hands down best 1/2 ton TV I've ever owned to compare it to something else just wouldn't be fair because there is no comparison.

Three summers and 20,000 km's without issue with my previous TT. For a loaded TT under 7000lbs with the 7700/8200 gvwr F150 with 3.73 gears, you can expect great pulling power, pleasant hill climbing with it's nearly mini Diesel like torque curve and decent unloaded mpg's. The F150 properly equipped is by far the best half ton for towing, I loved mine.

I'm very pleased with towing. The low end torque is wonderful. Grades that I used to climb with the V8 screaming at near redline, make the ecoboost downshift once and it accelerates up them at 2000rpm.

Granted, I'm towing less than half of my rated weight.

I have a 2013 Scab - Max tow - 2050 cargo yellow sticker. I pull a 2010 Coachmen (29ft)
26F DSL - #6987 Cat weight - #910 tongue weight - I have been to Gulf Shore a few time - Avg. 9 MPG - The F150 pulls without any problems - I also use a WD hitch ( Equilizer )

Mine's been great. No issues. It's pulled our trailer over 10,000 km so far.
