Bed accessories for '16 Sierra 1500 short box

Hey guys I just bought a 2016 Sierra 1500 crew 4wd All Terrain with a short bed. I want to accessorize and get a tonneau cover that will allow me to haul a quad in the bed without much effort to do so but also keep things fairly secure.

Any styles and brands I should look into? So far the fold option looks best but blocks the rear window view.

Iโ€™m also looking at the AMP bed extenders and the add on tie down anchors... anything Iโ€™m forgetting?

I do not have a 5th wheel, but do use a weight distribution when hauling my TT (rarely), mostly tow ATV and sled trailers.

thanks,
Jim

I ended up getting the BAK BAKFlip MX4 Folding Tonneau Cover which is the new design not requiring the tailgate to be open, its real slick and easy to operate and folds back enough out of the way to fit my full sized quad in the bed albeit far from water proof, the bed itself would need to be made waterproof or somewhat sealed first...

other than that got some Bullrings for the tie down openings, pretty slick too.

thanks guys.

I would like something a little more secure than the soft value styles mkirch.

I'm leaning towards the Tonno Pro or BAKflip F1 or newer version that gives full access without having to open it for tailgate open/closing.

also looking to get a bed extender if its compatible with the tonno I get.

They support the weight just fine but you do need to clear it off before rolling it up. I've rolled/unrolled mine down into the single digits and it works, a little stiff but it works.

I picked up a ~$180 cheapo folding soft tonneau for my daily driver. What I like about it is that it's quick and easy to fold (2 clamps) or remove (4 clamps). My previous truck had a hard tonneau and it was a problem any time I wanted to haul anything that wouldn't fit under it.

It can't be opened from the outside, so I can lock the tailgate and things are relatively secure. Thieves are not apt to slash it just to see what's inside. Still I don't put anything of much value in there.

It's lasted 2 years now, so I've got my money out of it. No signs of deterioration either.

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

Yes its the short box 5.9'

Have been looking at the BAKFlip HD and F1 (resin).

Does the roll ups work well in the winter with ice and snow?

Yes I will be looking to access the tailgate, seams the BAK-flip requires you to open it to close tailgate...

The quad will rest the back tires on the tailgate so it will be open when hauling the quad in the bed, closed when hauling a quad trailer most of the time.

thanks for all the replies and help!

By short bed do you mean 5'5" or the 6'5" bed? Are you wanting to close the tailgate or will you use a hitch extension and pull with the tailgate down?

I had an 04 crew cab with the 5'5" bed and would have to use a ratchet strap to hold the tailgate up so I could tow my TT. The hitch extension lessened the hitch ratings by half and with those old GM hitches I didn't want to do that.

My current truck has the 6'5" bed and I can just get my ATV in there and shut the tailgate.

I have a Truxedo soft roll up cover un my truck, there is a 4 or 5 inch lip that goes across the front that sticks out enough to keep me from being able to shut the tailgate. Fortunately there are two sliding locks that I can move and the front piece lifts right off. You will want to check with whatever type of cover that you get how much room it needs at the front when rolled/folded up.

If you plan on leaving the tailgate down with the back tires resting on the tailgate I would pick up some of those tailgate supports, something like this.

I love my LINE-X bedliner and as for a tonneau cover, the Retrax PRO roll-up cover is great. It rolls up near the top of the front of the bed into about an 8-inch square, so your quad tires should fit underneath it.

I love my Bakflip. It will be more secure than a flexible roll up and pretty much water proof.

thanks guys, does the roll up versions roll up small and far enough up and out of the way to be able to pull a quad all the way in to the front of the box touching?

I have googled it and looked into a few articles but the options are huge and somewhat clouded for what I'm looking to do.

I know I will need to see some in person and how they operate.
Might go this Saturday to the 4x4x truck store.
