Best Truck Battery

Well the time has come to replace my truck Battery, I tested the volts coming out of the Alternator it's putting out 14.5 volts I also cleaned the terminals. thru the process of elimination the battery needs replacing it's original one from 2005 Motorcraft

I'm just wondering what is everyone using for a battery in 2018

I replaced the Battery last Saturday, I went with a Ford Motorcraft. Turns out the battery being replaced was 10 years old. when I went to remove the ground it just broke in half, the ground had 5 wires going to it to many to fit into the replacement I used a busbar and bolted it to one of the clamp bolts. it took alot longer than I wanted it to but it's done so I'm good to go for our first trip this coming weekend

Batteries are very tricky to test and for years I have been using 50 amp load tester, who sometimes is not giving full test.
But Solar is proving tricky as well. I had battery going flat on my roadster. I recharged it and Solar show 300 CA on 1000 amp-rated battery. Yet 5l engine crank on it just fine.
Drove the car a bit, so the battery was recharged few more times and now it shows 800 CA.
The tester sends high-amp spike, so good clamping is important.

I buy my truck batteries at Costco, full replacement up to 48 months and I have a 6.0 PSD this works out great for me for I haven't had to "pay" for batteries in years, been able to return them under warranty!

Seems like OE batteries are generally strong performers, but I’ve had a couple of them that mysteriously crapped out way early and others that went longer than they should.
Realizing the battery industry is really only a few actual mfgs, the amount of research and subjectivity involved for a small purchase imo is not worth it for the couple bucks saved or spent.
As far as “best” batteries, I’ve had great luck with a pair of Odyssey AGMs. They are collectively almost old enough to buy beer now, lol. 10yrs and 8 or 9 yrs old. Spent 5 years in the boat, used infrequently but well maintained and now 4-5years in the truck and still kicking (knock on wood).
Got a Napa battery in one of the cars that is 5+ yrs old now, no issue including sitting in storage for a year and a half and no battery maint.
Worst for me have been Optima. I’m about 1 for 6 on those that didn’t die within a year or 2. And the best one was the one that wasn’t maintained.
My 2c unless you’re going with high $ agm, put another motocraft in it. First one made it twice as long as typically expected.

Not Motorcraft for me, but, MOPAR for our Ram, currently on year six on the OEM replacements. We also got a good price at $99 ea. less a dealer 10% off coupon, so replaced both for $189.

I'm running the same batteries. mine have been in there for three years now so we shall see how they last

I am thoroughly impressed with the pair of AGM batteries I picked up from Autozone (AGM-65 Durolast Platinum) for my F350. Yes, they were expensive ($160) compared to the typical Exide battery from Walmart, but they are built well and have a 3 year replacement warranty. Looking for at least 6 years from them. We shall see!

I will recommend Autozone Duralast Gold Batteries. I know from experience that they will replace anywhere in the US. I bought an Autozone Durlast Gold in Ridgecrest Ca. I had problems with it in Yuma. They replaced it no questions asked in Yuma.AZ. The battery was still under the full replacement part of the warranty before they pro-rate the cost.

Honestly doesn't make a lot of difference. Buying from a large chain store could be handy if you have an issue while traveling but really for a $60-80 battery, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Unless you abuse it, you should get several years out of a new battery.
