Carrying a Generator/Gas Can While Traveling

Where do you folks carry your generator and gas can while in motion? Do you carry them secured in the bed of the truck and then carry the generator over to the trailer connector after you set up? Do you leave them on the truck/tow vehicle and run a line to the generator? Do you carry them in the trailer? How do you ensure your generator is not stolen and locked down?

Looking for ideas of how to maneuver this new to me task.

2000-watt Honda generator and 2-gallon gas can in diamond plate storage box mounted on slide out cargo tray. Cargo box lid has lock plus locked cable thru anti-theft handle then out bottom of box and around bumper. After removing gas can from box, generator is run inside box with lid open.

My Honda generators and the Berg extended run fuel tank are secured in a heavy steel jobsite box. Once at the campground they are locked to the rear bumper with two high security cables and padlocks. I also added the steel thief deterrent brackets to the generator handles.

Transport both generator and extra gas in bed of truck. At the site (when dry camping) the generator gets cabled to the stabilizer. The cable lock is 3/4" thick braided and twisted. Pretty hard to cut through that.

When I'm hauling gas cans with my station wagon, they go on the roof rack. I guess it'd be a bit more of a reach with an SUV.

As many have said I also keep mine in the back of my TV. It is chained up and the power cable easly reaches. When at NASCAR tracks I leave it in the truck bed but when I am at hunt camp I usually pull it out and secure it to the TT. Never had any issues "knock on wood".

I carry 2 EU2000i gennies plus a 6 gallon extended run tank, plus 3 2.5 gallon cans in the rear of the pickup. The PU has an Undercover bed cover.

When running the genny(ies) they are removed from the pickup. When in the PU, I use those black cement mixing pans that Home Depot or Lowes sells. I can slide the generators either forward or back, and the same with the gasoline. Makes it easier for me to remove them from the PU.

Gas travels in the bed of the truck, and the generators travel under the dinet set.

Both in bed of truck. I only lock them down if the truck will be left alone, otherwise just strapped down. The lock is a 1/2 inch cable.

I carry the gennies (2 Honda 2000w) to the rear of the TT. If we leave and the gennies will be unattended I lock them to the TT bumper where they will be the least visible to any passersby and throw a camo tarp over them. It would not fool anyone who would walk up to our rig and start looking around, but at least they are not obvious to any casual observer driving around looking for opportunities.

The tarp is a couple yards of camo fabric from Walmart.

Generator travels in the trailer. Gas can in bed of truck. When not in use and we leave campsite it is chain locked to trailer.

We have carry our genset in the truck bed, locked with thick master lock braided cable. Also carry a 5g Jerry can mounted to the sidewall of the bed.
I was going to carry the genset on the heavy duty tray on the back of our trailer, but I am concerned about the bouncing.

My generators are cable locked in the bed, just out in the open. if someone with an angle grinder wants to cut the cable and have my generators, that's what insurance is for.

rather have them taken from the bed than a window smashed out of the truck, or the door ripped open on the trailer.

not sure where other folks are travelin??? but having recently completed an 11,000+ mile road trip I never once had any security problems or concerns. all the security precautions I took just caused me inconvenience.

When we had a TT, we traveled with it in the bed of the truck. When we setup and when we were in camp, it was cabled locked with one of those special handles on the generator handle that is anti-theft. At night, we moved it into the back seat of the truck, covered and locked. With the current 5W, it travels strapped to the deck in the front compartment. Same setup and procedure when we are in camp.
