Chevrolet Silverado 3500 ambulance

Ok, not sure this will work but I am looking at buying a retired ambulance and converting it to a service body to put my truck camper on.

It is not a full on ambulance, more like an intercept with the tools in the back of it so I was thinking the back should come off and be able to retrofit a service body on it?

Duramax with 130k on it is not a lot of miles. Being an emergency vehicle, it was pretty much for sure maintained on schedule.
Just make sure it doesn't have like 10,000hours on it. That's roughly equivalent of about 400k miles at normal driving, albeit mostly no load idling.
The rest of the truck should have a lot of life left in it.
Normal driving it would have 3500-4000hours.
Emissions issues could be costly, regardless of hours, but deleting is an option if you don't have emission testing.

As far as swapping on a pickup bed, it should be a direct bolt up. I don't think GM made a GMT 900 true chassis cab with straight frame rails in back.

Picture is just for reference, found it on a google search since I knew people wouldn't understand what I was talking about calling it an ambulance (which it really isn't). It is a 3500 with around 130k on it, it isn't a service body currently as it stores all the big tools in the back of it for emergencies.

I wanted to see if anyone has tackled a project like this before and if swapping to a truck bed would be easier?

Idling isn't very good for diesels if that is what the ambulance is. I suggest a pass in spite of the picture. 😉

Maybe the back half is a Chevy? :B

I agree, it already looks sagged out with just that body on it.

Looks like a service body to me. Unbolt it, get a fork lift to lift ot off and drop on what ever you want. You will probably have dozens of wires to remove from its previous life.
