I finally drove one. Buddy of mine at work just picked up his LTZ, Z71, double cab. I have to say, Toyota might actually have some competition finally, I won't say it is better, but I think it is as good. The one thing it has over the Tacoma is the interior, it is very comfortable and well thought out. I will be curious to see if it will break a 20 mpg city/highway mix. I will also be curious to see what Toyota might be doing for 2016, I am not sure they can rest on their laurels any longer with this little beauty in the game now.

I might be misunderstanding your reply monkey44 but the Colorado and Canyon have the choice of an ext or double cab.

What I would like to see is a SUV version of the Colorado.
I will need to replace my Tahoe in a few years and I would like something a bit smaller but be off road capable with a low range transfer case....kinda like a GM Jeep Rubicon or Toy 4runner

I'm betting in a few years, we'll see a X-cab or Db Cab version to compete with Toyota. At least some space behind the seats, even if just an extension and no doors. We all use that space and GM will create a winner if it extends that cab just a bit. The Tacoma has it, and we sure see lots of those around.

The regular cab is probably getting GM toes in a market that Toyota has dominated for years.

I remember a couple Chevy S-10 4x4 mini-PU (ext cab) we drove for years and years -- and did a LOT of tent camping before buying a full-size PU when we moved into a Truck Camper.

Matter of fact -- when Toyota came out with the new 4x4 mini-pickup in 1979 (a four cylinder / 5 speed stick), I bought my first and ONLY non-GM vehicle. It had some space behind the seat, but no double door. We had it for years, then traded it it in on a GM Silverado ...

Personal opinion: Small pickup with a solid build and 4x4 with extended cab will find a major market with non-TC campers, and will allow a family with a small TT plenty of camp time -- we always carried tents and gear in the back, and the kids sat in small jump seats in the rear space.

I know for certain, we'd buy one if we ever gave up our TC camping -- we'd either go back to tent (unlikely) or change to a small TT.

Ford offers many sizes of SUV's - Escape, Flex, Explorer, Expedition (in 2 lengths). I think it is great that GM is offering pickups in 2 different sizes. It gives the buyers a choice. That should be a good thing.

My young son is looking at getting a truck, and I think the new Colorado would be a better fit than a fullsize Silverado. They sure look better than the last versions. We'll have to test drive a few in the coming months.

There is definitely a market for these. Lots of ranger owners looking for a replacement.

If there's a catch thats it ^^^. If the price is to close to the full size trucks and they do not have a noticeable benefit in fuel economy gains, the only real perk would be maneuverability. Then again, like Bionic Man pointed out, Toyota has no problem selling Tacoma's which are very long in the tooth.

It's Motor Trends truck of the year...

Unless GM sells these trucks for a lot cheaper than a full size truck, I don't agree they're going to sell a lot of these. Driving a full size half ton truck in the city (including parking garages) is not a problem for all the people who are currently doing it now.

Looks like a winner to me as well. Toyota sure sells a lot of Tacomas. Folk that live in a a big city, want a truck that will fit in a parking spot. This will fill that ticket.

I didn't find any thing wrong with them in the past. My son bought one even after reading the reviews. it was the straight 5, he was the second owner and drove it to Az and back towing a UHaul. he never had a minute of trouble with it.

I think your right Mark. IMO GM has a winner with this and the Canyon. If I were in the market for a second vehicle or if I was just tugging a boat or smaller TT around I would be hard pressed not to give these serious consideration. If I remember correctly he paid $34,000 and it is loaded.

The Colorado went from one of the ugliest trucks out there to one of the best looking trucks. Good for GM!

Lots of buzz about these trucks. Sure sounds like they will sell very well.
