Cost to setup Truck

Anyone ever actually add up what it costs to setup a new truck? I just added up my receipts and wow it's over 2K. I would have guessed closer to 1K.

SuperHitch $771.00
Front Tie Down $254.40
Rear Tie Down $205.57
Fast Guns $507.52
Fast Gun Locks $47.74
Stable loads(lower)$196.12
Stable Loads(upper) $174.24
Torklift capping kit $27.80
Total $2184.39

I have not yet decided if I need airbags like I have on my old truck but I am guessing the Stableloads will take care of it.

I also just purchased two curt reciever tubes, two hitch bars, four rv plugs, 7way wire and some hardware to build a hitch extension. Also built a removable full width trailer flap that cost about $150 to build but that's not really camper related.

Add in a $47,000 truck and I think I better go work some O/T.

Yep, anything heavy costs way more in Alaska....which explains why potato chips are so expensive 😉

You need the Superhitch if planning to tow a 6,000 lb. or heavier trailer with a hitch extension. I believe that $450 for a double leaf set of Supersprings is the best way to upgrade a truck to handle the weight of a heavy camper - easy to install and nothing to touch or adjust or fail for the life of the truck.

Should add in the cost for an adapter cable harness and labor to install it in your truck. Add another $150. And a bed mat for the bed is important as well. And tow mirrors if your truck is not equipped with them - cost of $250-$400.

Here's Mine:

Fastguns (qty 4).....$300.78
Stableloads:.........$112.50
SuperHItch:..........$460.83
Fastgun Lock..........$40.93
SuperTruss...........$388.97
Rancho RS9000X.......$350.00 ish (unsure of exact price until I research it more)
Rubber Bed Mat........$95.00
Total so far........$1749.01

Airbags & controller: need to research it more

In 2012 I bought a longer and wider trailer and thought I needed a longer SuperTruss, so I ordered a 32" to get more length to obtain more turning clearance on the wider trailer. As it turned out, the short one I had was fine. I'm pretty sure I have a 24" SUperTruss.
I was able to return the long one.

500 for fastguns?? Mine were half that..... Saved a bundle ordering all the torklift stuff from Amazon instead of buying at the dealer..(tiedowns, fastguns, stable loads...)

I got all my stuff, except the superhitch from Amazon. They wouldn't prime ship the hitch to Alaska because of the weight so I purchased it locally. Fastguns are around $250 a pair on Amazon depending on color. Camper requires two pair.

Freight for most everything ordered on-line is crazy expensive to Alaska or they won't ship at all. Most vendors use UPS or Fed Ex which fly everything up at a huge cost. If you can talk to the vendor, sometimes you can request US Postal Service and cut the freight in half or more. USPS Flat Rate boxes have saved me hundreds of dollars. I thought Crumm's prices were pretty good for here.

Interesting thread.
I went the cheap route.
1999 F550. $7000.00 Eliminated the need for Truck Mods
Craigslist Super hitch with torklift tiedowns and 48" extension $500.00
Did need to replace 19.5 245 H rated tires. $1100.00
96 Caribou came with happy jacks
So in at $8600.00

Oh there was that $2200.00 trans and $500.00 install a year later.
So just over $11,000.00
Good for another 150K
I hope.
