Diesel Ram Owner Forced to Scrap Truck !

A diesel truck owner's battle with the state of New Jersey is leading to the scrapyard. Mike Sebold initially received a letter from the state's Department of Environmental Protection after listing his modified 2008 Ram 2500 on Facebook Marketplace. Officials took issue with the pickup's deleted emissions equipment and, in turn, told Sebold his truck must be returned to stock or taken off the road. But even after he turned in his plates, Sebold claims they've forced him to make an appointment with the crusher.

Even if there is some "VIN database" there would be nothing stopping the new owner if it is sold in a state where they don't do emissions inspections.

I believe removing the emissions equipment is a Federal offense, but many states don't do emissions inspections, or safety inspections at all, so it would skate.

As much as you would hope Creepy Joe and the rest of the govt is able to monitor and control your life, fortunately it hasn't come to that yet...

But I'm sure as a truck driver and self proclaimed mechanic, you've "never" turned up the pump on a mechanical diesel, or in any way modified anything you've ever driven that would make it 1 bit less "safe" for the environment or anything else.

Guy had 2 other choices since he somehow pissed off the roll coal police.

There’s a reason some government diesel vehicles (military for example) are exempt from this emissions garbage. Anybody wanna guess why?

I have extensive history and experience with diesels in various forms and usages, and can tell you for certain that it’s not a matter of when you will have emission issues, it’s just a matter of when.

Even though I don’t agree with it, it was stupid of this guy to delete the vehicle and then advertise it as such where he was located.

DEF doesn’t have anything to do with reducing that puff of smoke. DEF is used to reduce NOx emissions which are completely invisible but still harmful to the atmosphere. The factories that make the stuff are also highly regulated and monitored for their emissions to the land, water, and atmosphere as are the trucks that haul it. So no, using DEF does not increase overall pollution. It may, and probably does increase overall energy usage.

Fed vehicle pollution rules are rules and there for good reasons. The Ram owner as other law breakers found out the hard way not following (any) rules can be costly.

I am on forums for Can Am Spyder three wheel motor cycles, Kawasaki KRX side by sides and now CFmoto ATV among others which all have the cat embedded in the muffler. Vendors post about their replacement exhaust systems and users brag about this one or that one(which do not include a cat). What part about what we are doing to the planet do people not understand????

I couldn't agree more, my 2001 would occasionally puff a little smoke, not my favorite thing. Our 2016 Ram 3500 you can rub the inside of the tailpipe and no soot.

Kind of have to wonder if that occasional puff of little smoke compared to energy/emissions from the factories producing, packaging and shipping DEF to the stores. The factories producing the additional emissions equipment like DPF's, DEF pumps/tanks, EGR coolers/valves. The extra diesel to regen to burn off the carbon collected in the DPF. All this to eliminate that little puff of little smoke.
