Diesel truck issues - thinking of going to gas

Hey, everyone! I'm new here. I have a dilemma - I drive a '17 Ram 2500 Diesel. Love it, but have had nothing but problems since we pulled off the lot. It's currently in the shop for transmission issues. While there, I was looking at the specs on the new gas burners. We have a bumper pull horse trailer that is easily pulled by the truck, but we are about to buy a Jayco Eagle 355. I have looked and read and calculated all I can. Can someone give me some advice as to whether or not I'd be safe to pull the 5er with a 2500 gas? I'm just sick of the issues we are having with the diesel. Thanks in advance.

One of us is confused... You are having lots of problems with the RAM (Dodge doesn't make trucks anymore...), but none of those problems are with the engine.

Your solution is to get rid of the engine (the one thing that isn't causing a problem), but to stick with the manufacturer who created the overall truck that is causing you issues.

Am I understanding your position correctly?

I wondered the same thing, I just didn't want to go there. However not uncommon, there are a lot of IH 6.0 buyers who got burned, who lined up to buy a 6.4 and got burned again, and have bought 6.7's.....a lot of them.

That's insane.
Not all were bad. Still driving my 6.0 and still like it @ 200K miles.

I agree and there's two other great choices to pick from.

Dealers can't do alignments? You should find a new dealer i think!

Yes, I am including tires etc. Since I had the truck in 2006 I spent $16K on it. Some things that come to memory are: Turbo maintenance, turbo hose clamps coming off, High pressure sensor, 2 X injectors, Breaks, EGR X2, undercoating, tires. Rear end needed change and maintenance due to rust on breather screen. So far no transmission problems. When it runs though it is great and can tow my 5er with no problem. I am thinking of getting new shocks for it next year although not needed yet.(116,000 mi)

That is blind brand loyalty, which I will never understand. I'm not sure how many times people need to be kicked by the horse to learn not to stand behind it. I've had a Buick car, a Ford pickup, an Isuzu SUV, a Toyota pickup and now a Ram pickup. I am only "loyal" to whatever I am driving at the moment, and that decision is made by a combination of need, cost and availability at the time.

I was actually researching a 3/4 ton gas and had narrowed it down to Ram and Ford when I stumbled upon my current truck, being sold used at a Ford dealer. That was the deciding factor for me.

Maybe we should let the OP expound. Still unclear what the actual trans “issue” is.
Everyone’s temperature for issues is different, but to me, a big “issue” is trans doesn’t shift right, slips, grenaded, etc. A leak or 2 is annoying and ain’t the end of the world especially depending where it is and if one is capable of simple repairs.
Wind noise? Pffft. Lol
Front end alignment? Either super rare issue or super dumb alignment people. Not brand specific.

My Duramax is 17 years old. Still get a thrill out of the torque it has. Our 18 year old GMC gas just doesn’t do that for me.

Yes it needed tires and brakes and wear parts in the steering but overall the truck was solid.

We get confused and pretend gassers don't require any maintenance.
The title of this thread is:
"Diesel truck issues - thinking of going to gas"
However the OP has no issues related to the diesel engine.
I'm no ace mechanic but do some of us even understand how a truck works?

I had the same reaction. OP's transmission is giving him trouble so he wants to switch from diesel to gas. I guess if the engine was the problem we'd be talking about switching from an automatic to a manual transmission?
